I never thought of how children could misunderstand a sign like that. He saw it as written about the children and not as a warning for drivers.

Dear Bill, I saw this particular story because you had won 3rd Place.
This particularly story had a very good title, because it is a matter of perspective between the adult and a child.
I also wanted to thank you for going to all the effort to petition the whole neighborhood so the city would install that sign.

Very cute, Bill. I suspect the boys had quite a conversation between themselves. Of course, anyone can be offended if they want to be. Case in point: several decades ago hubby and I visited Salisbury, England. A lovely town. Imagine our laughter when one crosswalk warned drivers "Old people crossing". Not sure if it was reserved for seniors or not, but we crossed there anyway. :D Nancy

Charming story--great twist. Reminds me of an incident my ex told me--he lived in a town called Reading (pronounced REDing)--there was also a North Reading--he saw the sign No. Reading and started crying that his town had disappeared. Delightful piece!
