This is a beautiful and honest story. It's amazing how our pets seem to know us better than anyone else and having to say goodbye to them is heart-wrenching.

Good luck in the contest.

I weep with you. Two years ago I had to say my last farewell to my beautiful Labrador cross, who was nearly 15, a rescue dog who came to us when she was nearly 12. Such a golden time, so precious, although so short. The pain is horrendous, and many people don't understand the sense of loss and emptiness. They are closer than family often, more than family. Wonderful writing, but so very sad.

Sorry to hear about Dinky.
By writing about him you shared him and your loss with your readers. May the memory of the good times he shared with you be comforting.
Well done read.

Goog one Earl. I made the same statement when my daughter brought our dog into our lives.Hardest thing I ever had to do was have her put away when she turnes 15 and bad health So I know your feeling and wow how a person can get attached .

This is a beautiful and heart-warming story of love and companionship. It is told in a way that endears the reader to a dog they will never meet. You were able to enjoy Dinky for many years, but I'm still sorry to hear of your loss. This story is a fitting tribute to his life. Well done.

I am 100% positive that all good dogs go to Heaven. I am planning on meeting a few of my there and a cat, who I swear used to plan my demise but after 21 years I owe her something. I enjoyed reading your contest entry and wish you the best of luck.

I think we all cried when Old Yeller died. It hurt so bad I have never wanted to watch that movie again. I have had many precious pets die in my lifetime and is the all went to heaven I will have a herd of animals follow me around. LOL This was a very moving story and I understand it.
Well done Earl. Nancy:)

I understand, Earl. Dinky was more like a son than most sons are. It alright to cry that makes you a man with feelings. I cried went my Terrier, Chihuahua got killed by 2 big dogs. The little runt attacked them, more balls then brains. Yet, it took me... no I still feel pain, it happened before Christmas last year. I glad your Dinky had a long life. Thank you for sharing.

This is touching story. I'm not stranger tot he kind of loss that breaks your heard. We had three old dogs, two chihuahuas and a Blue Heeler when my husband died in 2017. I held it together in spite of him being my soul mate but when Mitsy had to be put down a month late, I cried a river. Angel died naturally four months later. About four months ago the last dog, Roxie crossed the rainbow bridge. I know how you feel.
