Delightful use of words with perfect timing. Here in Louisiana we are facing a hard freeze. Sand is for slippery steps to keeps us from skidding and crashing. Our sun is solar salt and no bikini or beach towel instead we wrap pipes. Best wishes with you enticing entry.

In my country we put sand and often salt down too.
It helps people get a better grip when walking over a road after the snow plower has passed .. it always leaves a thin layer of squishy snow behind that is very slippery ..sand and salt also help melt that thin layer of snow.
Glad my wee poem brought a ray of sunshine into your otherwise freezing day.
