This is s superb slice of life event from WW11 and its real impact on family at the time, told through the eyes of a child, with the child's candid realisation of the effect on the family and the absent brothers- interesting comment towards the end about having more 'stuff'! This could serve as the opening chapter to a book !

Powerful contender for the true story contest. I know it is true. I lived it myself. Born on April Fools Day 1940. We must have lived in a flight pattern in the hardwood forest in west Tennessee. I was not afraid of those fleet of bombers. The tall trees blocked my view so as soon as I heard them approaching I would run to the plot cleared for a Victory Garden. The best spot for viewing was under the okra plants which toured over me like mini trees. To this day I love airplanes and okra. At age 18, with a high school education, I enlisted on Oct. 20, 1958 and took off for the wild blue yonder. Little did I know one of my first assignments would be special assignment to the US House of Representatives during the John F. Kennedy admin. And I worked for one of the original raiders. They had a re-union in 1962, I believe. I got to meet all who were still living -- including Jimmy Doolittle. Keep using your pen to tell stories that are not being told in history books today. The artwork is perfect -- portrays when men were real men.

Thank you for the five star review. The memories of that period of time are still so vivid. We who have lived history in the making cannot forget. I found your remembrance of WWII so interesting and if you haven't written a book about your adventures, you should.

Gripping--masterfully narrated--POV of yourself as 8-13--brilliant. Skillfully underplayed, no superfluous pathos--you wisely let the events speak for themselves in plain language apt for your age.

You did a great job telling of this time from your POV as a child. I enjoyed reading it. There is good flow and progression as the war moves ahead, too. You never lose track of the POV from you. Everything you wrote sounds just like I would imagine a young child speaking about how the world was changing in so many areas. Best wishes.
Respectfully, Jan

This is such a vivd recollection of the war from a child's point of view. How things changed so much, so quickly.
Before 2020, I would have had a hard time imagining how something could affect the entire world so much, but I suppose fighting the corona virus is a different type of war.
Thank for sharing. Stay well.

This is a good story for the contest. The attack on Pearl Harbor and the subsequent entering into WWII affected so many families across our nation. It's nice to read a personal story about it. I like that you ended with the music playing again. Best wishes for the contest.
