This is an interesting bit of history. I had no idea about the ravens. I bet there have been all sorts of stories written about them. That the King was was so superstitious certainly benefits the birds.

Thank you W.J. for reading, glad you enjoyed. They are the best looked after ravens in the U.K. Cheers, Kay.

Your picture is awesome, Aussie. Your notes are informative, too. I enjoyed reading and reviewing your well-written poem. You included great facts about their history, lifestyle, and enjoyment people get from them. I would love to see the ravens and even feed one like in the picture.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

They are a great tourist attraction and the best fed birds in England. The Yeoman of the Guard (Queen's men) look after them like babies.
We don't have ravens in Oz, we do have crows and they are the pits!
Thanks for reading my friend. Love, K XX

Thank you for the fascinating story of the six ravens. Your photo and poem paired perfectly, adding depth to your words. I loved the last stanza telling us that a raven flew away but returned for "Food and friends." Well done.

Hello LJflutterby! First time I have met you. I am so pleased you enjoyed my poem/story. They are so spoilt and have the guards look after them for the Queen (and the tourists.) Thank you, Kay XX

Hi Aussie, I just realized why you did not realize we were already fans. I changed my name from Lorraine Jackson.

What a well written poem Ausie. A nice dedication. Have you seen the ravens? Your poem had good injections of imagery hat gave a sharp sense of the bird you speak of.
A good strong delivery here, and very much a splendid write.
Bravo.
We don't get enough sixes my friend, but I like this one.
Well done.
My best wishes.

Thank you my friend. Yes, I was in London in '88. Fascinating history and all six birds have names; they keep a spare just in case! Blessings, Kay.

This is wonderful. I was unaware of these noble birds and your poem pays tribute to them. There is a feel of another place and time in your words even though the ravens are still at the London Tower. Excellent theme for a poem that has a sense of adventure.

Hello my friend, Thanks so much for reading and yes, the past can be felt in the Tower. It was a bloody past being a prison, usually the last stop before Tower Hill where they were executed. Yuk.

Hello my friend, When you were there, the Yeoman of the Guard should have told you some history or maybe the Crown Jewels came first! K XX

I love this, Aussie. A little history in rhymed verse. Since I like history and poetry, you got me both ways. I have visited the tower, but I did not know that about the ravens. I do know that they symbolize wisdom, healing powers, longevity, and death. What a mixed bag! I think Poe is responsible for that death image.
Don't you just adore Gloria and her birds? That was sweet of you to give her that show of recognition and appreciation. I enjoyed this one very much. I won't forget the legend.

Hello Possum, So glad you enjoyed. The Beefeater should have told you some history? Maybe he was more interested in the Crown Jewels!

In this descriptive, informative poem, you have done a good job of telling about those ravens and the King who placed his trust in them. I especially like the last stanza.

First off what a terrific photograph!

What a fine poem too. Just the right amount of imagery and history combined with the subtle tone of mystery and reality making this a superb poem.

Very, very well done, K. I much appreciate the dedication. :))
