Oh this is a tough one to read. Domestic violence and all the disfunction that goes with it. "No more"... so powerful is that moment a person realizes their worth...unfortunately so many don't or are simply so emotionally beaten, that they no longer have any hope. And the cycle repeats... such a tragedy. Well written on such a difficult topic.

Thank you for your involved review. I worked with abuse victims 30+ years. People often ask, " Why don't just leave. I'm from Vermont and the region we served was chiefly rural. Escape was not simple. Of course, escape is never simple in any environment.

I feel so much entity with this poem Liz that was me and my kids escaping, running fearfully of every shadow. Was that man across the street him? Did he see those scrags of humans those he sought? He'd kill the bitch for taking his children from him, Yes he would have killed me had he caught me. So much insight here Liz, well done. Luv U Anne.

These are the stars I have.
Bravo. Always like to see champions of such writing and heart.
Nicely through the sequence, with active verbs coming to the fore.
A strong write.
Well done.
Best wishes.

Yes these is too much abuse in our society today. Many are willing to risk all to get away while other are too afraid to move. It is sad. As we as a society move further away from God, I don't see it getting better, but I am glad there are many who lend a helping hand. Well done, great poem.

Thank you for your involved review. One woman's story was about how they had to sit up front "as a family".
She always had to wear long sleeves because her arms were terrible bruised. No one knew.

OMG. I hate even hearing about this sort of thing, Liz. I do hope you never lived like that. Why women cannot all escape instead of taking it . I know why but it is awful to say the least.

You have used some very strong verbs in this piece, my friend. And although very hurtful, it is very well written.

One correction if I may suggest, here:

......./Compared with the storm
Raging inside her souls (their souls) ??
Inside their life"

Bless you, my friend. Bob

Thank you for your involved review. As you mention, many uninformed people say, "Why don't they just leave?" They have no idea what is involved in leaving.

What a powerful poem. It's so well-written that you can feel the lady's inner turmoil, her struggle, her will to survive. The hate, resentment that powers it all. You make the reader empathize with her, hope she can escape.

What a fantastic poem, Liz. It definitely addressed the fear, the pain, the frustrations and the anger of being abused. Most do not understand these emotions until they have actually lived in the fear. Most tend to blame themselves which is even worst. Freedom is a choice even in a snow storm. Well done.

Thank you for your lovely review. The problem you mention is very real for abuse victims. People say, "why don't they just leave?" They have no idea of all that is involved in a victim leaving.

I feel so sorry for all abused people, women and children suffer mostly, but there are also some men who go through mental abuse. The abused mostly stay because they are afraid to leave, it's a vicious circle. Afraid to stay and more afraid to leave. When they do manage to find the courage, it's still terrifying, waiting to be found and made to go back. But after a while they start to have hope. The help that people like you give, just by being there, and listening, is the start that is so vital. Finding that they are not alone is the ticket to freedom. Your poem is excellent. Well done! :)) Sandra xx

My shelter where I worked has changed the name to NewStory. They house men, especially transgender men.

Abusing women is an act of a weak man. That being said, I think abuse by anyone is an act of a coward, man or woman. A good poem with a powerful message.

Thank you for your involved review. We need advocates like you who don't just say, " Why don't they just leave?" That actually may be more difficult for an abused man. Our local shelter changed it's name to NewStory. It ministers to abused men, especially transgender male to female.
