I know at the funeral, you get to see all kind of people: "Eddie's wedding was in 1983. My hair was unassuming brown; it's now flamboyant (superfluous to say) marachino. My face, forty years on, constrained from flouting its mask, made up for it by flaunting its eyebags. I was floored that Lorraine, whom I barely recalled, was able to recognize me." Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

Thank you for sharing this memory. In this new world of ours, you get huge credit for having attended the funeral of someone who was no longer "family". What a nice surprise, for you and your reader, that you were recognized despite the passage of time and presence of COVID precautions. Love the description of your hair color! You immediately reminded me of the time I died my hair red (I looked like my hair had been colored with a crayon). Wishing you good health and happy writing.

Wow! Talk about a left handed compliment. Congrats on being recognized, by the way. At least you left a lasting impression. I guess better to be a fool than forgotten.

Only you could get so much mileage out of a funeral. When everyone is wearing those dumb masks, facial recognition is impossible. If someone is called on to identify a dead friend or loved one, they'd probably say I'm sorry but I don't recognize him without his mask. It was amazing the Lorraine recognized you after all those years. Her remark was a bit on the tactless side, though, saying she wished she could have had the nerve to get up and make a fool of herself dancing, like she thought you had done. I wonder how you responded. judi

Isn't it amazing how we affect people with our actions that we never imagined? I have had people (yes--even with mask on) call out to me across the grocery store and thank me for the review and encouragement I gave them when they were CNA's-- "You gave me he confidence to go on to nursing school..." Really? I had that power? My words meant that much? You made an indelible impression that flew across the years! Good for you!--Karenina

Is that maraschino red Liz? (like the cherry) that's pretty way out, in my youth my natural hair colour was a carroty red, lad, later sandy red...later.... beautifully written my friend, flamboyant is your nature, huh. Well done, blessings Roy

What a wonderful story! I think it is the best compliment when people remember you for the spontaneous things we do, rather than staying inside the box. It must have been the sparkle in your eyes!

LMAO! You must have made a lasting impression or some part of your anatomy is still similar to 1983. But with that last comment makes the compliment not be so everlasting. Thanks for sharing.

You have got to be kidding about her words. Who would say something like that, about you flailing, flapping and making a fool our of yourself, whirling like a dervish all my yourself, and meaning it is as a compliment.
LOL
