Really cute poem! And your "misspellings" were exactly right for this poem - it wouldn't have sounded right if you hadn't used them. Magpies are quite good imitators - Do you try talking to them and do them mimic you?
Thank you for sharing.

Such a fun read Christine. I love your adventures with your birds and would love to see an actual Magpie... I think our blue jays may share similar traits. Great job on this verse!!

Hi Melissa Thanks for your review and yes we have lots of maggies but they can be quite aggressive and swoop people during their breeding season it can be quite an issue . I am sure your blue jays are cousins perhaps
    Cheers Chris

Hello Chrissy, this is a great, amusing poem and well written in mono-rhyme. This is quite an accomplishment. We see magpies as a menace to other little birds - 'thieving magpies' we call them. But they are a real attractive bird. Good poem from you and a great read. Love Dorothy x

We have a few Maggies here and yes, they are everything you say they are. They stay in town mostly so we don't have to deal with their antics. Good Picture of a Magpie. They are very flashy when they fly with their black and white plumage. Well done. Nancy:)xxx

When Maggies call I come a-runnin,
Chris,

hahaha When I first read this, I was like - WHAHAAATTT??? Their day is TWO DAYS LONG??!!! But then I shook myself and realized you posted both of these on the same day. Duh. Sorry - I can be pretty scary sometimes. --sigh--

I have some editing notes to offer... they kinda apply throughout, so I'm just gonna copy the whole thing here:

***
When maggies call, I come a-runnin',
Through my windowpane, they summon.
Then out the door, they see me comin'.
Throw minced steak; their beaks, they fill'em.

The crows and others sit there watchin'
till they see the maggies stoppin'.
Then they swoop and start a'lookin'
for the scraps the maggies left'em.

***

I think this is absolutely adorable. I wasn't sure you could keep it up through three stanzas and was so pleased to see you do it so effortlessly. This was a lot of fun. You should have saved it for a contest entry of some sort. Thanks a bunch for the smiles!

Your concise, descriptive poem is delightful and entertaining. It's interesting to know these birds honor their pecking order (pun intended-- LOL!) Steak--WOW! No wonder they frequent your place.

This was indeed so cute and rather endearing Christine. Maggies or rather the Australian Magpie are beautiful birds, I really like their distinctive black and white. They are really unique birds. I do so love how you deliberately misspelled the words. Very enjoyable. Happy Australia Day, enjoy.

Hi Pam, Thanks so much a d yes we had a lovely Australia day with friends and ai fed the maggies to. They are very much an Australian bird with the black and white colour ( although in some parts of Europe I think they have a variety with blue wings but they are not related to ours)
Love the baggies May use that next time Ha Ha
    Cheers Chris

A very well-written poem about the Magpies that come to fetch their daily food from you and they seem to like the minced steak the best.
