I also have fears of lost freedom one day and not that far off. I don't understand people who what government in control of their lives, young people seem to think they will pay for everything. Who is raising these dumb kids? All the freedom that was fought for, sad to think it can all be gone because of one generation selfish desire not to pull their own weight.

Yes we are lucky to live in a free country. We have a better chance to stay a democracy with the new president.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

Right on target, Mr. Jaybird 1! "United we stand" is a phrase no longer applicable to our country. I am guilty. I will have nothing in common with socialists. Good thoughts on your part.

Yes, Jay, this is troubled times indeed and it is worrying.Politically America is divided as never before, and on top of that the whole world is struggling with a pandemic that seems to overwhelm us. I loved your poem. Ulla:)))

Your poem reminds the reader of all we have in this country and we need to give thought to keeping those freedoms. You have a smooth poetic flow of words and lines a that adds to the strength of your theme.

I never thought, through good times and bad, that I would come to a place in my life when I worried that our democracy would survive. The hatred, the vitriol, the lies, the divisions, the entitlement, the insurrection...makes me weep. I so want my grandchildren to know the country I know... For the first time ever, I wonder if it's too late.--Karenina

That is very well said. Great rhyming and flows easily. I am Canadian but see so many things happening in both of our countries, wonder, like you, how much longer we will have the freedoms we have enjoyed.

In answer to your final question here, Jay....I do not know either. At 81, I feel I have lived a good life and am ready to pass on when god sees its my turn. However, I do not envy our younger generation who will live to see the worst if things don't change for the better. bless you, my friend. Bob

This poem is superb in every respect--skillfully-written and descriptive of the precious privileges, freedoms, we have always enjoyed (perhaps taken for granted!) That couplet grabbed me--expressing my own thoughts.
