I laughed throughout and read it to my husband. I might have given you a six if the crowd hadn't raised a single fist. I hope to see much more from you. Sad realities are best approached with humor and you were spot on in naming your town. Kudos!

So I missed by a fist to get your fix of a six. Not the first indication I have had that life can be unfair. But, that you read it to your husband is a special badge of honor for me. Thanks for stopping by. Since you and your husband enjoy laughing, I humbly invite you to visit my portfolio. Most of my writings make an attempt at humor, sometimes about marriage issues. I'll send you a note when this prompt is done.

I'd appreciate that. I used to write humorous poetry for special occasions. It really helps to have characters with interesting idiosyncracies.

Sorry, I must ask: How can you "used to write humorous poetry" and stop? Isn't that like "used to eat ice cream"? I am unaware of it being possible to reform from either...
-
Well, I haven't given it up completely. I just need the right occasions. For a lot of years my work entailed a lot of expository writing, a lot of ghost writing and a lot of editing. It didn't leave me much time for creative writing. But . . . at 70 I'm back and I'm here, always hopeful of making a little money from cash prizes, and/or entertaining some folks with my scribbles. Expect to see me . . . a lot!

Great story! If I expected my writing to feed me, I sure would lose some weight! As a young man, I spent some time in radio, both civilian and in the Navy. I would write silly poems and read them on the air. Then, my life in business was sans silly. Since retirement and finding fanstory, I'm a menace! Great to meet you and have fun!

Great to meet you, too, and I look forward to learning your name once you are unveiled.

What a frightening dream. With everything going on today I can see how this could come true, how the news could cause you to imagine these things. I had to laugh at the end when she suggested a road trip. I'd probably say not no but heck no lol.
Nicely done, good luck with your contest.

Of the three nice reviews, yours highlighted the end. To me, it reminded me of the ending of some old "Twilight Zone" - the irony of returning to the opening point. It was not in my original plan. So glad you liked it. Thanks!

Quite a road trip, glad it was just a dream. Road trips are what I have missed most during the last year. So many good memories of ones in the past, and hope we can do them again soon.

We had last year's trip to New England cancelled, but we made the 43 day excursion through Yellowstone, Utah and Arizona. In an RV, you can stay socially distanced and the West was not as locked down. I also pray this thing ends soon. Thanks for stopping by.
