I agree most of us stood in shock and disbelief when Jan 6th and the violence on our capitol unfolded before our eyes. Never have I felt more ashamed that my country's people could stoop so low as to bring shame and desecration to our values. I am happy that from the rubble we can rise and call for unity. Begin Again is my motto. Smiles to you!

I really enjoyed reading this poem. You have told the complete story of what happened that day and all in rhyme.
Very well written. All the best. Jen.

Yes, it is certainly wonderful to be rid of the Trump-Monster. My own latest post makes my feelings clear on that! With any luck he will be convicted in the Senate impeachment trial and banned from standing for office again. Of course he has a litany of legal problems to face in the future as well.

I liked the cartoon as well - making that same point about the Founding Fathers - no doubt still rolling in their graves!

Thank you Steve. I anticipated a lot of blowback from this poem being posted. I do not take it personally, but it is confusing because the evidence of wrong doing is well documented. I am so happy that you are not among the confused or deceived.

They say a change is as good as a rest and maybe this will work for a moment or too but there is a lot at stake. Gaining advantage with violence never works but was this crowd incited to riot? Not sure what really happened here, and the truth may never be known, a poignant write, love Dolly x

It is said that the right word at the right time can cause spontaneous combustion. Reference football, baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, etc. These are games where a team on the verge of being routed hear just what they need to hear and the rally to gain a victory. A group of people who believe that they are being deprived of something hear what they want to her and off they go like a rocket fired from a cannon. The rest is, as they say history.

This incident proved to be the final nail in the ex presidential coffin. Although things don't look particularly rosy for trade relationships with my country, I am glad for America's sake that the change eventually was effected peacefully.

Thank you. As difficult as it may be to fathom, there are still many who believe that somehow the election was stolen. I believe that the presidency of Joe Biden will be like a breath of fresh air to not only America, but to the rest of the world as well.

I don't know if our Founding Fathers would approve or not, but I do know there is evidence that this was not all it was made out to be. It was wrong, there is no excuse, but so strange that violent riots are allowed to continue and have for months with on condemnation at all from Congress. 24 dead so far, 100s injured, over 1000 building burned, more vandalized and defaced. Whole neighborhoods held hostage. Did they all agree to that? I'm sure it was terrifying for many. But for some reason it's okay. I'm confused. Someone new doesn't always mean better. But a well written poem. =]

Thank you Roxanna. At the risk of comparing apples to rocks. Most of the violence that took place during the protests against police violence against minorities, most of the violence was suffered by the protestors at the hands of the police. There was never an effort to take over a government building or to interfere with government business in any way. This poem was not referencing protests against police brutalities, it was about the unlawful attack against a government building and legal government procedures.

Identity politics is a scarlet thread
revealing the color of our skin until we bleed red.
Martin Luther's dream was to be seen for the soul
Cancel culture sweeps all the past
Only the self-righteous have stones to cast
Violence on the left, violence on the right
An uneven reliance to put all that is wrong on one side

Politics is a complicated game, if you don't know the rules or if you don't have the stomach for it, it's best you stay at home. I suspect that the coming days will be quite interesting as the different sides decide who they are going to be and who they will oppose.

This is a well-stated commentary on the appalling events of two weeks ago at our nation's capitol. I wonder if any of the people involved ever stopped to think that they were doing wrong and would eventually be ruined. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. Sadly mob mentality often clouds a person's ability to think clearly.
