Excellent poetry, Jim. Not sure but I believe this is free verse, is it not?

My fave lines are in how you ended it:

"Those who sail with fair winds and sure calm seas
their nets raised full, the seas seem still, becalmed,
the mates and skippers knew the fishers won!"

Good job, Sailor. Bob

Hi Bob , no this from my writing class in learning the process of doing sonnets. This is just of a myriad of sonnet styles called Petrarchan.

This is a lovely and well written piece in praise of the dhow. I is interesting and the sails billowing in the picture make it seem so much more than a fishing boat.

A very well-written Petrarchan Sonnet about the fishers are ready to fish as soon as the sun rise above the horizon. As soon as their nets are filled they turning home.

I am an avid reader and I will have to read that book soon. Your poem has peaked my interest on the subject. Not to mention, I am a sailor. Don and Vicki.

Thanks for teaching me this new word, "dhow." You show your knowledge of sailing and of boats in this petrarchan sonnet! It seems to be a successful voyage!

Another sonnet to delight our ears and I just found these lines a little out of metre so I have some suggestions for you:

"Waves swamped their wood(en) decks (to aid) their glide."

"The best of crews need luck, and this is plain."

"(And) rigs were cleared, nets cast, the hunt began."

On the whole I thought your metre and rhymes were very good, love Dolly x

This poem was unique and fun to read! I must admit, I enjoy topics pertaining to the sea or ships, so this one was quite enjoyable! The rhythm was nice and the rhyme lovely. Thanks for sharing this!

Well written poem that had an easy rhythm and flow. The rhyme sounded good with this style. I like the Petrarchan Sonnet. for this topic also. Well done! Hugs and blessings to you.

Hi Greyson in the Petrarchan sonnet the format is most often
ABBA/ABBA/ CDE/CDE or it could be
