Brian,
I often think about those pioneers who left everything they had to come and take a chance on starting up in a new place. It took so much bravery and ... something. I don't know what - maybe a little crazy. *smile*
This was an enjoyable post. Thanks!

well, I liked your poem - the meaning was clear and honest, but I'll tell you, truly, this 6 is mainly for what you said in your author's notes, afterwards. I just love it! It is beautiful. I think I'll call it a night, and go to bed with those thought in my head.
Thank you! I'm still smilin'.

This stanza caught my attention:"
If prayers rise so high,
Past the stars shining bright,
To make things green again,
send an answer here tonight." Prayers that will cleanse the drought and will bring the life giving hope - the rain. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

Reading this I wondered how you managed to turn it into a song given the varying stanza lengths. Having listened to the YouTube version I still don't know how , but I felt that it worked as a song very well. I gave it a 'like' anyway - the first one!

This story poem reminds me of the Dust Bowl decades ago when farmers prayed for rain that never came. I especially like the farmer's slang used in this poem and how we learn the Speaker is no longer young and spry. Rod

Oh, wow. Seriously musical poem. I could hear the birds, feel the struggles in your words. I was touched by your explanation, after the poem. It seems to me you have so much life to write about. I look forward to seeing some more of your work. You have a musical ear, and terrific imagery. Well done!
