And the moral of this story is when confronted with a bitch -- best to let sleeping leaves lie! You really ought to write a book... The compilations of your clever and humorous tales would be enough to make a post surgical patient lay off the morphine "power" button!--Karenina

Alas, the damage is done--I still have crop circles from a prior pit bull bitch--6 years ago!

Indeed--they're called leaves because you're supposed to leave them. (wrote a flash on that last fall).

Hi Liz,
I like your comparison, the lawn with so many patches of "crap" circles to the complex artistry of UFO's over a corn patch.
"The upshot is that my yellowed yard was peppered with crop circles."
It really helps to visualize your poor lawn.
Who owns the dog? Surely, you could ask the owner to keep her mutt off your lawn rather than spraying the yellowed grass with grass green paint. Or is it allowed to run free? Is there no ordinance in your neighborhood about keeping dogs on a leash?
I also like the reference to the Wizard of Oz..
"Strike one: the gross unsuitability of its preternatural shade, a la Emerald City in electrified Technicolor."

We have an issue that I noticed last fall... moles. We have a rock wall where our front lawn meets the sidewalk on Wild Fox Drive. Somehow, hobo moles thought it would be a great location to set up camp. It will force me to take action in the spring. Any suggestions?

You will also have to tackle your lawn in the spring after your leaves are raked up. Your neighbor's sod idea might be the way to go. Buy a few rolls of grassy sod and patch it up. Then, get a rifle ready to shoot the dog when she shows up on your lawn again. Problem solved.

Huhs,
Kimbob

Crap cricles--clever! Had this been about the other brand of doggie business I'd have implemented that suggestion.

Raked? Never--they're called leaves because you're supposed to leave them. (wrote a flash on that last fall).

Great use of fall leaves - as décor or camouflage. Thanks for sharing. You probably did not read the issue of P&P that had LisaMay's information that the dog can have a little bit of baking soda to reduce the acidity in her urine and that fixes the lawn yellowing problem.

Ah the joys of living in a city home where the lawn matters! Fortunately, I've not been in this situation many times. Now we're in a Condo so I have no worries. Your will look better in the spring!

Learn something new every day. I was unaware of the special hormone. That explains why my yard always looked so terrible. I love the camouflage of leaves, but alas my late hubby couldn't stand them and would attack the moment they started falling.

Ha, ha, ha the revenge of the paint for being used for the less artistic experiment and being degraded to the patched job. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

Love it! The first line grabs and does not let go. Funny and I can relate to the journey which seems out of proportion to the task at hand. The picture is trippy and made me wonder if the grass was in a different universe. I stumbled over this phrase though - as well as torturous as regards the hands.

Thanks--changed to: torturous to the hands. I also reworked the yellow-green parenthetical I felt was awkward/unclear.

Oh my, Liz. You've sunk to new transparencies. I know we will all relate to this one, though. And the frustration of the spray paint. Wow!

Well, you can't shoot the dog. But you could develop the story into a grisly movie script, send it to the right producer, and dedicate it to the pooch. Maybe they would get the message.

Never tell a story to a story teller :)

Cheers!
Lucy

Isn't Mia a dog who's been neutered? If she were maybe there wouldn't be the problem with her urine. You might ask PC and Patch. It seems that nothing works against crabgrass. Some of the remedies suggested didn't work too well for you. You do realize the leaves will lie there only temporarily. They have to be raked sometime. It's a losing battle. judi

I think you need to tackle this at the root of the problem, lol. There are certain products that you can feed dogs to stop this issue from happening. It may be something worth looking into come spring when your camouflage from winter is gone. My favorite line:a la Emerald City in electrified Technicolor.
