This poem is so meaningful and personal, bringing back so many beautiful memories that I became tearful. Your free verse is smooth and flowing. I was able to enjoy the subject matter because the poem was so creatively well written. Thank you.

This free verse poem shows how the mother and daughter age together. How as one life changes, so does the other. Both places become home by your definition because both have the umbrella and family. It also shows how COVID has changed things.
The line about threatening the date for prom brought a chuckle.
Keep writing and stay healthy+

Thank you, Joan. I raised 3 daughters. The boys learned not to mess with this mama! LOLOL Linda

No problem, Linda. Good for you. My husband did the interogations when my daughter started dating.
    Keep writing and stay healthy.

This is like one of those Happiness is a Warm Puppy things except that it does its job with more gravitas. It consists of a series of direct comparisons, similes really although there is no like or as in here. These statements are not merely definitive of home, they are home. Even the riddle of the sphynx gets a look in the penultimate stanza appropriately enough near the end. Nicely done.

Dear Linda, when you write a poem, you really write a terrific one. I can understand why the ribbon and seal were posted with your poem. Not only is this a poem all of the Senior Fanstorians will relate to, but the very end words remind us of the home, where we are really all going some day.

This is absolutely lovely, Lovely Linda. You tell the story of home in this uplifting poem my friend. I can't see anything that needs fixing. Home is where you find love. That is the thing. Here and in the Hereafter. Good Job. Nancy:)

Linda,

How sweet! All the things you mentioned have been true for my own home - and I love this house. I worry that as soon as my hubs and I die the kids will put it on the market and be done. *smile* But there are so many memories here. Life and love and heartache and triumphs.

Well done!

This is a fine piece of poetry dear Linda! What disturbs me ever so slightly is that you have a rather stereotyped little girl who wants children and has grown up like a princess. But otherwise, very cute!
Thank you for sharing!
Blessings and a humongous hug-it-out hug!

I'm 72 and grew up in a very small town in the 1950's and 1960's. Getting married was what we did at that time and in that place. And, most importantly, I did NOT grow up like a princess. I was raised by poor maternal grandparents and grandma was extremely strict. I had nothing similar to a 'normal' childhood. Thanks for reading. Linda

Hi Stranger. LOL It has been a long time since I have seen a post from you, my friend. This writing is so very attentive to the human spirit and most of what we do day after day to stay alive. Your images within the lines are concrete and the writing warm and loving.

Thanks for sharing Linda. :) Bob

Thanks so much, Bob. I am quite ill and spend most of my time in bed sleeping. I was able to be up yesterday a few hours and this poem just popped into my head. I did no rewrite to 'fix it'. It is raw because I didn't have the energy. Linda

Oh no. My goodness, please stay warm and take care with a doctor if needed. Bless you. Bob

Bob, I have a family doctor, a cardiologist, a pulmonologist and an oncologist. I see lots of doctors lots of the time! LOL Linda

Oncologist? That indicates cancer? sorry, Linda. I didn't know. Bob

-Nice image and presentation, Linda.
-A well written poem with
effective images and recollections
of what home means to you.
-The progression of thoughts
and examples is very good as
you face the pandemic and think
of your family as they grow and mature.
-The grandchildren come along
with the joy they bring, but along
with that is the aging process, too.
-Well done. Have a good and a good week.

Thank you, Pam. I'm quite ill so I doubt my days will be very good. Besides my heart disease and CHF, I now have emphysema which makes me horribly tired all the time and short of breath if I do anything. Linda

You are very welcome, Linda, but I am sorry to hear about your health. Thoughts are with you, and hope you see improvement.

This is absolutely wonderful and I am glad I chose to read it this very early Sunday morning. HOME is special to me. I RUN to it and even though during the pandemic, I would, at times, like to RUN FROM IT, it is still where my heart lies. You have poetically mastered what HOME truly means in such a lovely way. Perfection!
