That's what kids like to do. They like to get into situations where they want to show their daring, but they get scared. As you write, they run like a monster is in there and then try to act cool again. It's part of being a kid. Maybe someone makes a dare, and they can't ignore the dare. Interesting presentation. judi

I remember doing that exact thing as a kid. This should have been a contest entry. Very nice job. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe and stay healthy in the new year.

I enjoyed this Bill. I remember there was a dark tunnel in the projects that we actually did run through quickly and look around hoping no one would see at. This brought back my tunnel days.
Very good in capturing this in feeling.
Regards,
Mary

This is funny. It sounds like school days again when walking from school we sometimes had to walk through places that made us nervous. It is hard to look cool when you are running like a monster is chasing you.

I can see a young kid doing this. Who an I kidding, if I was in an alley and something went boo, I'd run too. Heck, rustling leaves would be enough to send my imagination into overdrive.

Thanks, MD, for looking at this.

That's exactly how I feel in such a situation. I'm glad I'm not alone. There's something scary about any enclosed place. You never know who else is there. Thanks for this.

Enter at your own risk, keep your eyes wide open. If you have a weapon, keep your hands on it at all times, ready to shoot stab or throw. take a deep breath, then go! After you safely emerge, ask yourself why. Why in God's name did you do it, and how soon will you do it again.

Alleys are the route one takes to make a long journey, or a life, shorter.

As I read this I could just picture a teenager coming to this, running through the tunnel, and then slowing down and acting like it had never happened. Good use of words to describe the picture

That looks like an alley one would avoid unless it was a necessary path.
There are certain places in this world that give me pause. I wonder who planned it and why? Scary. The photo with the words is excellent.

I had a childhood trauma much like the dark alley fear. I had to address it for a long time and just walk bravely in to that scary place. The more I did it, the more I healed. A fine short verse for today, dear Bill. Sending you my best and blessings always,
Sal :) xo
