This is a lovely Christmas Story entry, and I hope it does well in the contest. I, too, love Mincemeat pie and have not had any since I was a child. I can taste it now!

Some very nice memories there. How fortunate for you that you opened the mince meat cookie tin first!
You've almost got two separate stories here: the mincemeat wraps up nicely as one tale, and the letter of commendation is another one.
I enjoyed both.
Good luck in the contest.

Hi Earl!
Merry Christmas to you!! Appreciate your great Christmas memories from the mincemeat and the playing Santa Claus twice in one day. It's those kinds of things that will keep the magic of Christmas for us.

This is an excellent story. I think it would be hard to have the Christmas Spirit so far from home. My husband spent a Christmas in Korea during the war but his memories of the care package seemed to be one of his favorite Chrismas memories.

Dear Earl, I have never heard of any one being ordered to be 'jolly, but I do know that in the military when you are ordered to do something, you do whatever is ordered.
You did not report on the comfort or quality of your Santa Suit. it would have added a nice touch to your story.

Earl,

First of all, I have an important question... does every company of every branch of the service include one Smuckatelly? I read about the antics of such fellows allllll the time. I can't help but wonder what on earth is the deal! hahaha

Notes:
1.) It cost m(e?) half of the tin to keep my roommate, Smuckatelly, quiet but I figured I came out ahead.

2.) Oh, look. That's all. *smile*

You did good. Thanks so much and Happy Holidays, my friend!

Yes Robyn there is a Smuckatelly in every company, You don't want to be a Smuckatelly. Except I sometimes have him come out on top like Forrest Gump. Thank you very much and Happy Holidays to you. I appreciate you reading and reviewing my story.

Merry Christmas
Earl I enjoyed reading you message Spreading the Magic
I feel that celebrating Christmas is not the same
Not havingourr family and friends not present; just me and my husband to raise our glasses of cheer. Because on account of the terrifying unwanted Corvid virus. Only the ones that live in your home can celebrate.
Smiles to you about the mince cookies

Because our government has handled the pandemic well, we've been able to celebrate Christmas the usual way, with all our family present, beautifully written Earl, thanks for sharing, my friend, well done, blessings Roy

I did know that Earl, I wasn?t sure of that the expression should, two tins of lard, rather the two lard tins, so the syntax is still wrong. I do my best Buddy.

Good luck in the contest Earl. When I read your story it was with much delight and fond memories. I too, love mincemeat whether in pie, tarts or cookies; heck I have even been known to have a spoonful of my homemade mincemeat. As a child I grew up with the delicious smells of those special pies baking. We had cherry, apple, rhubarb and of course mincemeat. As I grew into my teens, I learned to not only make the delights but also to make my own mincemeat. Thank you so much for sharing this memory. Merry Christmas, Happy New Years, Season's Greetings and blessings.

Thank you very much. I've met more people that love mincemeat here on Fanstory than I have in my whole life. I appreciate you reading and reviewing my story. I hope 2021 is better for you and brings you good luck and blessings too.

Hello Earl... Merry Christmas. I really enjoyed your story and loved the different anecdotes you included about Army life... we are retired Army too...but, I especially liked how you wove the love of mincemeat into your story. My Hubby loves fruitcake and so I have it every year, or a nut roll, which is similar. Well done and I wish you luck.

Melissa
