Jesse,
This virus seems to to fighting everything we do to combat it. It has been here too long. The scientists have tried their best, but we need to find a way to put this to an end so we don't have to live in doubt so much.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Well done.
Joan

Yes, Joan, I too am worried, about the pandemic. And the Delta Variant that seems to be creeping into our neighborhoods. But alas, we need to count on the politicians to bail us out, once again. I am staying as healthy as I can and, I hope you do the same, my friend.
    Take care and stay safe,

Ah yes, everyone thinks they know what's best as they presume to know the story of another, a presumption that is often incorrect and egotistical. Everyone's story is different and acceptance is key. Great thoughts, thanks for sharing.

I wrote this one with great passion and knew, or thought I knew, that those who offered me continual advice would become defensive. I was right, but only to a point. My best advisor has helped me to see that acceptance is crucial the more dependent one becomes. Thank you for this excellent review and rating.

I like this poem very much Jesse. I am sometimes blown away by the wisdom of your words. In this poem I also liked very much the creative rhyme pattern. It is very musical and pleasant to the ear. All in all, a most delightful poem.

The last verse of your poem really spoke to me. I liked the rhythm and the concept of 'treating oneself kindly'. Some people beat themselves up mercilessly which never helps.
I hope you have an enjoyable festive season.

Thank you, Judy. Thanks for your kind comments, and I agree that some folks beat themselves up rather than learn from their mistakes or mishaps. Have a wonderful holiday season, with hopeful promise for the New Year, 2021!

Preach to the Preachers
by Jesse James Doty

Hello, Jesse,

Nice poem about the virus and people who preach about it. I go with the scientists and medical experts advice.

Well done my friend.

This is a thoughtful and thought-provoking poem. It considers the themes of wisdom and truth and their presentation in relationships, and in how to live life. Beautiful image!

A very wise and with much insight, poem. It is a foregone conclusion as far as I'm concerned, that we know what is best for us and how to behave, far better than some distant bureaucrat. I conduct my life in the safest manner that I know and will not risk it. So, you are right.

Thank you for your kind comments, with the answer to how we take personal responsibility for our actions as the only way to help ourselves and help others. I love how you 'get' what I was saying.
Have a happy holiday season, and may you prosper in the coming New Year.

This is really beautiful. What an amazing photo. A miraculous photo.

There is a big departure in positionality between Stanza 1 and the rest of the poem.

Stanza 1 reminds me of Wisdom standing at the cross roads shouting to anyone passing by, anyone who will listen, "Come this way." "Share in my preparations for your well-being. Yes, the well-being of the whole world." "Do any of you hear me? Is anyone listening?"

Then there is a shift to a human perspective, where reason and logic have now entered the conversation. Of course, no solution will be forthcoming now.

But treating oneself kindly, and others as well, is such an excellent starting place for change. Although, I do not agree with "gingerly." Maybe at first, but then it must progress to lavishly :)

Well done!
Lucy

Thank you, Carmen, for your insightful and compassionate review. Your analysis of the current situation facing our country, is so true, (in my estimation), and hopefully, we can show each other love, instead of hate, as we deal with these difficult issues. Thank you for this excellent rating and review.
    Merry Christmas to you!
