A wonderful free verse poem! And it made me think of how Petrarch spoke of that mountaintop experience because at the apex everything falls into perspective. Loved that you alluded to the Mount of Transfiguration and Golgotha
"in a white blaze of transfiguration,
reveals the glory of the resurrection."
I'm sure Roy was honored that you dedicated this one to him!

Well, I am glad that you enjoyed the poem, my friend. I thought you might enjoy it, it really is so much along the lines of many of the things you do in your own poetry. This was about an uplifting moment, of finding yourself in that chapel with the light of the Word lifting you up off the world and into the transfiguration of the Spirit. estory

I really like the spirituality of this poem. It started with a mountain chapel that shaped like a boat, to the incense of spruce, and ended with wild Rhododendron. It reached the peak of spirituality with "resurrection".
I saw a chapel on a hill in Northern Iceland that is very much like a Noah's Ark. I have a picture and I should write a poem to it. Iceland is very unique and beautiful. I should do it.
I'm an atheist. Yet I still like the spirituality in this poem.

I could easily envison this scene and loved the spiritual encounters within each stanza. I am sure that you felt strongly about it the other way, but in the mountains I feel that the air really is clean and the water clear and could only visualize it that way even though it was written the other way. It is a beautiful poem and I particularly liked the description of "incense of the Applachian spruce"
