This is a lovely story and well told. I love how the minds of children work and, as a reader, I'm glad you remembered the machinations of your six-year-old mind as you tried to wrap your head around the concept of "mythical". It's those details that make good writing.

That's so sweet! I liked the way you took that information with such innocence and that you were able to have "proof." Lol. The hardest thing to overcome is why would parents lie? Best wishes in the contest!
"Who told you that?,"she asked. (no comma needed)

As a child we never heard of Santa in our home and we got almost no gifts for Christmas. We did receive a stocking with an apple, orange, and nuts in it.

Thank you for the review Pat. There were a lot of kids that have that same story to tell. My husband was one of them. Those were hard times. Our parents had just come through a depression and they didn't feel they should spend money. A lot of what I got from the mythical Santa was fruit and nuts and my toys weren't expensive but I believed in the myth. Christmas was special.

Thanks for this story, because of what had happened to me when I caught my dad tiptoeing into my room in early hours of the morning, when I was seven, here is my quandary, I told both my kids he was a myth, because I didn't want to lie to them, but it never phased them, they both knew, but enjoyed Christmas anyway, I'm pretty sure they maintain the myth, but that's up to them. Kids create their own magic, without adults doing it for them. Beautifully written Beth, thanks for sharing, blessings Roy

Thank you for the reveiw. Yes kids can make their own magic. Mom didn't want to lie. I guess my Dad didn't consider what he said a lie, even though it was. He was a very honest man otherwise. He probably called it kidding around.

It?s like anything, it?s alright to lie under certain conditions, I wonder ifbGod feels the same?

Dear Beth, this is a wonderful story, and clever little girl that you were; continued to reap the bounty of magic, AND the extra presents from Santa, until you were ten.
When did you stop believing in magic?

Thanks so much for the delightful review. I never stopped believing in magic. It makes life more exciting. Santa probably stopped coming when I started wearing makeup. LOL

What, Santa isn't real? Just kidding. This is a cute story. One I'm sure we can all relate to. I was six when I first became suspicious. I caught mom sneaking presents under the tree. She tried to tell me Santa left them on the porch because we didn't have a fireplace. Your story is well-written, very interesting from start to finish. Great use of a writing prompt.

Haha this was a good story. I was 8 when I woke up to the myth of Santa. Same year my Dad left us so it helped Mum not have the extra expense of my belief in Santa. Well done, No spags.

The innocence of children is a gift from God, Beth. Jesus is the gift to us on that wonderful day, but it is true, Santa Claus is the one who brings the children their toys. This is a good offering for The Truth About Santa. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much for the review and excellent comments. Jesus is the real gift and Mom tried to teach me that but she let me believe in Santa until I was ready to let it go.

Good story, Beth. There's always somebody ready to rain on a parade isn't there? I found out Santa couldn't come because of WWII. We didn't want the Sleigh shot out of the sky by our enemies. By the time the war was over I had learned the truth. It didn't bother me much because Baby Jesus was more important than Santa could ever be. LOL Good Job. Nancy:)

Thank you so much for the review and comments. You had some smart parents. No kid would want Santa to get shot. LOL Yes Baby Jesus was more important.
