Heartbreaking. Stunning closer. This is the most notable amongst the contest entries that speak to mere disillusionment.

Kitten was Cathy[comma] age six, and I had just turned eight.

What a sad thing to have such an incredible loss anytime but especially as a young child. You have shared well and your sweet self in the picture is lovely.

Oh how very sad, this is so well written, what a shame Dad couldn't carry on the Santa story a bit longer while the girls are coping with the loss of the baby and Mum.
This is a harmless story that brings magic to many children. Good luck ð???

What a heartbreaking story you shared. Christmas and traditions are strong parts of family and the happiness we feel. Your story tells of how losing someone we love takes away so much and we often sacrifice what we know we can no longer do alone. I hope you have a good holiday this year.

As a writer, I know how difficult it can be to capture strong emotion...in the last paragraph of your story, you potently capture that emotion!! I am very impressed by the scale at which you portrayed it to us, readers.

Great job, and congratulations on winning the contest!

This is heartbreaking. I can see why you won the contest. There is such a loss in this dad that makes me very sad for both him and his children. Life need not lose its magic, even when we lose someone we love.

This story, Dad is Santa, is about the saddest thing I can think a child could hear, except that you already had to learn that your mother and little brother or sister were dead. What a tragedy. I must say the timing couldn't have been worse. Your sister Rose was a bit of a turd, I think.

Thank you for your review. In talking to Rose years later she said Dad was sort of in a trance and was not going to do anything for Christmas. She saw it as a choice between the truth or two little girls finding no Santa visit on Christmas

Rose was only 13 at the time.

This is a sad but heartwarming story of a child finding out the truth about Santa. I'd hate to tell you how old I was before I figured it out on my own. I know your Dad had a very difficult time admitting the truth for fear of destroying a child's fantasy. I enjoyed this story. Well done.

A very well-written story about finding out the truth in a cruel way us always the hardest way to lose the magic of Christmas in a few seconds, it takes years to figure it all out.

Santa brings so much magic to little boys and girls during the holidays....I found out from my older siblings that there was no Santa. When I had my own children, I didn't want them to know there wasn't a Santa!

Thank you for the review. I believe in letting kids naturally start questioning rather than telling them.
    Nevertheless Christmas is still magical.
