I am left feeling awed and yet sad. Awed at the dream that takes you places and sad that you must wake up and face the world as it is. Dreams allow for an escape that we all need form time to time.

Yes, I watch our kittens. They can dream up empty air to chase an unknown entity. LOL They do have a good time with whatever only they can see.
My hunter has gone
and I'm left to gather memories,
surviving in a doubt-filled drought.
Love those lines. Well done. Nancy:)

Thanks for your review Nancy. I probably twitch when i'm dreaming too... not from hunting something, more likely to be trying to escape!

I used to chase dreams also, Jenny, :) until my dream captivated me. Still, I dream of what was and could have been. They wake me up before the rise of dawn and kiss me in my sleep. I miss the angel that kissed me this morning. Your poem inspired my heart to write about the loneliness of what was. A very thought-provoking lovely poem.
You know, Jenny, when you write with feelings, just words of heart, it comes out natural and beautiful. Yet, when you force-write the words to sound the same and use too much alliteration it doesn't feel right. Hope you don't mind me saying. :)

I am honored that you found this poem worthy of bestowing a 6, Jose. I know you prefer my free verse poems... I don't mind at all that you speak your mind about what you see as not so successful in portraying feeling in those other poems. I write poetry for several reasons - sometimes to spill my guts by being cross about something, or because I feel some emotion of the heart or spirit, or am moved by nature (same thing as previous)... or on the other hand it is to entertain my brain with word play and a specific count to a syllable requirement... yes, I agree, that does sometimes get in the way of the inner feeling. I find it is actually more difficult to write free verse. Most people would assume it is harder to write rhyming stuff... so I guess I write rhyming stuff when I'm feeling tired and need to give my brain a buzz-up.

Cold reality hits us when the fridge is empty and we don't feel like shopping for food! Ha ha ha, something your cat does not have to think about, but then again she has her instinct in reserve just in case you forget the canned cat food! I dream of someone cooking me lunch someday and I shall have to wait until I visit my daughters for that! You made me smile here, we are servants to cats who just day dream all day, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

A very well-written poem. To follow your dream doesn't always place food on the table and the reality is that someone has to provide the food we need to stay alive.

This has the leisurely sybaritic life o the cat down to a T even though the subject is human waking to the new day, it is really more about the cat. The real boss of the shop, as they always are in their feline subtle way.
This one does not need to write to those agony aunts. She is too self assured.

Dreaming/streaming(<=scheming to sneak in a bonus rhyme: Busted!)
Whiskered kisses from a pragmatic pussy are tempting indeed. Good riddance to the dick-head hunter. Nice work!

Beautiful poem and I'm so glad that Lily brings you "insistent whiskered kisses" to wake you up from your dreams. I hope both of you become the successful huntresses in dreams and even in doubt-filled droughts!

Thanks Helen. Lily's kisses are often bestowed - makes me wonder if i've washed my face.

I really enjoy how you begin with the curious cat and transition to your own sense of dreamlike wonder. The photo is so magical. Lovely flow and imagery.

LisaMay - Oh so wistful! You paint beautiful word pictures; but alas, they are filled with pain and fear for tomorrow. Awake to a new day and may all your memories be a blessing - Jerry
