This is a beautiful, very lyrical poem. It makes us want to whisper, to be still, to let this atmosphere of beauty be absorbed. It is very well written, and accompanied by a magnificent photo.

What a beautiful poem and amazing photo, which reminded me of Iceland. I like the following two lines:
teases the icicles with
bouncing reverberations
These two lines are very visual.
Well done.

That's a chilly looking cave with that ice hanging everywhere, Melissa. :) I must say (Not too loud) that I would only whisper in that cave. With winter getting dressed in white it looks like most everyone is in for a doozy. Very good Tanka. Thank you for sharing.

This is lovely, with great appeal to senses of sight and sound. The echoing and reverberations give the cave an eerie, supernatural feeling. The cave is ethereal. Ingenious imagery of the sound teasing the icicles. Beautiful presentation for this Tanka. judi

You painted such a vivid picture with your words that I felt like I was there with you, seeing it hearing it for myself. I imagine it would be a fascinating experience walking through the ice laden cave. Your artwork is gorgeous, so mystical, enchanting.

This could well be your best tanka yet. That upper poem (kami-no-ku) echoes Basho's famous frog haiku -
'The old pond
A frog leaps in
Sound of the water' -
with its third line concentrating on the sound. In addition that third line forms a splendid opening to the lower poem (shimo-no-ku). I wish you had been able to enter this into a tanka contest. I would vote it a winner.

Hello Jim... thank you so much... since you are a master at Tanka, I especially value this review. I am still unsure of myself in crafting verses /tankas with fewer syllables. That is my next goal.. after sonnets :). Thanks again!

A very well-written Tanka about the echoing whispers through the ethereal cave when the icicles teases with bouncing reverberations through the tunnels of the cave.
