When we grow older, pain seems to arrive like that pain called "Art", arthritis. How we long for the days when we could have a back that does not hurt or even knees which don't ache.

You have indeed named the pain that troubles me most these days--Art. Many thanks for sharing my poem.

I like this take on the theme of betrayal. The older I get the more I can definitely identify with this betrayal of the body. I have these conversations with mine regularly.

A wonderful portrayal of these aging bodies. I found this a delightful poem to read and commend you on your sense of humour.

"I dare not nap in chair, on couch,
or pain in neck I'll surely get.
My body aches. I feel betrayed.
These constant breakdowns make me fret."

Bravo! A winner, I'm sure.

This is a sad state of affairs for many and eventually for most everyone who lives long enough. It is hard not to feel betrayed and angry because we can remember what once was. Your rhyming sequence worked very well. Good job and good luck in the contest.

It seems the pains begin in earnest when you hit 70. Many thanks for sharing my poem, Cynthia, and your kind praise.

Mine hit a bit earlier but I prefer to dwell on the 55 good years I had. Blessings to you and yours.

This is nicely crafted. I am glad you wrote: feel betrayed. Because eternal youth is not something on the list for any of us. This is a poem that I feel will well received and understood. A good writer caters to his audience.

Smartly written. Good entry and good luck to you.

Enjoyed the humor in these well rhymed quatrains. It really feels like betrayal when our bodies don't allow us to do what we've been doing all along! Best wishes in the contest!

I am so pleased you enjoyed the humor in my poem, lyenochka. Sometimes, however, I feel very disinclined to laugh when the aches kick in.

I like the way you have approached the word "betrayed." None of us want to grow old but even with the aches and pains age brings, life is still worth living. Good luck with the contest.

Yes, the Speaker does feel betrayed by his body, but I think he's being facetious when he calls on God to deliver him. Many thanks for sharing my poem

Ha ha ha, you made me smile here, at least we have lived long enough to experience old age, some are not so lucky, but the aches and pains are through lack of use! Ha ha ha, a fun post and you entertained me, love Dolly x

Hi, Dolly. Yes, we are fortunate if we become senior citizens, but there are few pleasures in getting any older. Many thanks for sharing my poem. I am glad I entertained you.

I am so pleased you could identify with the Speaker in my poem, Wendy, but I hope you have far fewer aches and pains to bear. Many thanks for sharing my poem.

This poem speaks about your feeling about being old as you feel betrayed, you ever pray God; you lost all faith in living; well said, well done; thanks for sharing this. ALCREATOR
