You sure did a lot of research for this one. I attended Amphibious Warfare training at Little Creek when I was in the Army. Is this going to be a book? Keep'em coming.

I live in North Virginia so I'm acquainted with some of the areas mentioned in your informative write. I've walked along the cobbled streets of Alexandria. A lot of people, including my son, take sailing lessons so they can hire a boat in the summer to cruise the Potomac. The earthquake happened a few weeks after my family relocated to the east coast ( Falls Church Virginia) from California. Partly because of the constant threat of earthquakes in California. Ironic! The tremors didn't last long but the quake was LOUD!!!
Thanks for sharing
Stay safe

Thanks, Julia. Virginia thanks you for bringing the earthquakes, I?m sure.

You're welcome. My family also lived in Florida but never experienced a hurricane until we settled in Virginia.
First time I understood that the wind can indeed whistle, a high piercing eerie sound.

A concise organized essay on the important facts of the state of Virginia, a state I have visited several times. It does have a deep, broad history, and is a cornerstone of the country. My favorite part is the Skyline drive, but Williamsburg is also great. estory

This is by far one of the most interesting tours of the states so far, Bill. I had no idea how West virginia became a state. very interesting indeed. Lots of coal mining still goes on today in that area, I believe. Thanks for sharing, my friend. Bob

Hi Bill, loved this better than the other chapters as it was more informative, probably due to its history, just checked out the accent from Tangier Island and see what you mean. Funny off to Norfolk, England on Thursday. Cheers

Hi Bill, this was a wonderfully informative piece about Virginia. Some I already knew but most was new to me.I've learned a lot today. When this pandemic is over I will make sure to pay it a visit on my way to my Brother and family in Mass. I really enjoyed reading this. Ulla:)))

This is a very interesting post on Virginia and filled with many interesting facts.
Noticed one typo:
It has three times the floor space as the Empire State Building? (period)

I look forward to your installments of the fifty states...your style is friendly and eminently readable.
And, yes, I do remember the Virginian. :)
Having lived in Maryland for many years and frequented Virginia, I knew about half of your entries but there was a lot I did not know.
The Tangiers Island accent is interesting.
I had no idea the earthquake could be felt at such a great distance.
I'd also had no idea it handled 3/4 of all data. Securitymust be increible.
I hope your pieces are as fun to write as they are to read.

Another super post about one the states, Bill! I always wondered about why there was a Virginia and a WV. Seems like economically, Virginia fared better. Cool facts - almost makes me want to see it - someday.

I would have liked to retire in the South, having lived half my life there.

This is listed as fiction. This isn't fiction as far as I can tell unless all of these facts are wrong...However it seems to be a fascinating piece of history...
