What a fascinating picture and event, plus an imaginative way to describe an on-coming blizzard! I enjoyed your use of alliteration and parallel title. Best wishes in the 5-7-5 contest- Joan

So intriguing! You must know your firearms, Melissa. I had to look up salvo. You really are a pro with creating dramatic scenes. I can just see that "lone snowflake" being spat out from the pre-blizzard clouds!

I had to laugh at this one. I'd say this a warning for sure. Old man winter saying it's almost time. My cat's outside water dish had a thin layer of ice yesterday. I thought to myself no, it can't be but it was.

Really nice 5-7-5.
I love the title and the artwork is perfect. I don't see a reference so perhaps it is your own photograph.
I particularly like the image of "spit" and the words burgeoning and first salvo.
I can't see how you could have made it better.
Good luck in the contest.

Beautifully stated. It's getting that time of year. We don't get much snow here, but I wish we did. I still miss those Maryland winters. Perfect picture for this. Good luck in the contest.

The clouds indicate what's coming. The snowflake was just the first salvo of what is sure to be a bombardment. People will be looking for that first snowflake. The warlike analogy works well for you. Nice alliteration with the S sounds. Best of luck in the contest. judi

Oh no! I can't believe how many places have snow. It is still so warm in FL it is hard to imagine snow anywhere. I wouldn't mind a little snow now and then. Well done, I hope you do well in the contest.

Hey Roxanna... thanks so much... here in central VA, it does not snow very much. I am looking for that first snowflake. :).

Melissa,
*smile* Just right. This poem offers a brief glance at the beginning of something wonderful - well, at least for those of us in the South. It may be the sign of something far different elsewhere, I suppose. haha
This was so peaceful and calm and descriptive. Thanks and good luck!

Will not be long before blizzards begin here in New England. We know what it means when we see that first flake! Great entry for the contest. The black and white highlights the lone snowflake..
