As always I learn new tidbits of information from your Attack of the 50 States. Tennessee's info on the architect William Strickland being entombed inside the capitol's walls was an unknown fact to me.

Bill,

Hey~! My family's been to the same medieval show! Wonder if we were there the same night? Oh, wait. Maybe we saw that in a different place and saw an old west show at Dollywood...

Ummm... nevermind.

This was a great summation of Tennessee. It's made better because you mentioned Alabama, of course.

When I was really young - maybe 16-17? My friend and I would drive from Decatur, our home at the time, up Hwy 31 straight into Tennessee - right across the state line, we could zip in a store and buy QUART beers. We'd each get one and then drive back.

Of course, we could never drink the whole thing. It got hot and yucky. But we kept going. Weird kids.

Thanks!

I always look forward to reading your installments on states you've traveled. I enjoy your conversational style, as if you are talking to a group of friends. I think you do a good job choosing which episodes of the trip to expound upon.
The confusion between the two Tennessee men in the first couple of paragraphs was a great way to start and really pulled us in.
I remember Tennessee Tuxedo; I think Don Adams' voice suits him better than Maxwell Smart:)
I like your little tirade over Andrew Johnson, he deserves it.
Nice job, 'nuff said. :)

Fort Campbell, Kentucky actually borders Tennessee. I was there twice. I got kind of anxious you saved Davy Crockett until last. Very nice job. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and stay healthy. Keep'em coming.

I had him in earlier, but he made for a better transition to Tejas.

I imagine the hillbilly who sang on the Ed Sullivan show made quite a bit of money. One of my cousins moved to Nashville to pursue a career as a county singer-songwriter. He got married and pursues a 9 to 5 job now--country music's loss. I've read that Andrew Johnson was illiterate until his wife taught him to read and write. The Civil Rights Museum must have been an inspiring visit. I think that road would have scared me, too. Interesting tour of the Tennessee highlights. judi

Now you are making me jealous. The sites you mentioned are all places I hope to see someday. I remember a silly joke about "What did Tennessee? The answer: The same thing that Arkansas. I am really enjoying your trip. As I said before, sometimes I feel like I might have stowed away in your luggage.

Dear Bill, having some family members connected to not only the music industry, but the energy and chemical sectors too, Made it easy for you to add a whole bunch of facts about Tennessee. As for all the historic and the most visited places in Tennessee, I think you named most of them; and most of the famous people too !
The most interesting thing you mentioned what is the number of volunteers to fight in all those wars, ( seems like those folks really like to fight. Maybe it's the narrow winding roads. ) Are there any statistics about WWI or II?

I saw 90,000 Tennesseans in WWI and 134,000+ in WWII.
reply by Suzanna Ray on 12-Nov-2020
    So how did that compare
( percentage wise ) with more populated states ?

That sounds like a a research assignment for Suzanna Ray.

Dear Bill, the last time I had to research the Biloxi Light house because it was mentioned ( remember Mississippi ) I ended up reading about a major Yankee Civil War Strategy to take control of the Mississippi River and deny southern shipping from that source. The strategy cost the Union a whole lot of money and manpower, but it worked.

Bill, your state chapters are filled with lots of facts and humor.
I like this one. So many things to see and remember besides Elvis.
Awesome writing, Bill.

I've lived in the Chattanooga Area of Tennessee for the last 33 years and I was amazed at all the things you came up with that I didn't know about this state. Of course you missed I few things I do know, but I think you covered it pretty good.

Bill. I was really interested to read what you had to say about Tennessee because I have two nieces who are college professors and live there now. In the course of their careers they have lived in many of the states that you have written about. They and my brother live near the university have three horses and four or five dogs and a plethora of cats. I enjoy visiting them; but, I generally stay at a motel. And, oh by the way, I enjoyed your article - Jerry
