Its a great little comment on the age old proverb, beauty is only skin deep. The image of the girl looking at herself in the mirror really drives home the point. These things all will pass, but the personality and character within is what really lasts. estory

You are absolutely right, but our appearance is really a mask to wear to hide what dwells on the inside, also we can be rather sensitive to hurt feelings even if we are a little tough. Beautifully written Iza, blessings Roy

Excellent essay, Iza. You covered it all and very well, I might add. These lines sum it all up don't they?

"So, my pretties, don't worry, let that light shine, and it will act as a beacon in finding your real prince, and not Mr. Frog-enstein."

Bless you, my friend. Bob

Iza,

A wonderful message and an important one for this day and age. *smile* It would seem the ONLY thing that is important is the exterior. --sigh--

Notes:
1.) fake can get you (only) so far if you don't have it.

I almost didn't mention these, but thought it would be a disservice if I didn't:

2.) I know all of this is because of Eve and her apple. See, this is why I love smartphones.
--> neither of these things seemed relevant to me and they weren't explained...

3.) "Mirror, mirror in the wall, tell me what I'm logging for!"
--> longing?

Thanks so much!

I thought this was a really sweet piece! It is so easy to fall into the trap of criticizing yourself for "not being good enough" and I think, in this piece, you really captured an essence of acknowledging that many people criticize themselves because they think they aren't good enough for another person, but, in the end, we are all unique, special individuals and it doesn't matter what is on the outside, but what is on the inside that matters. Great piece!

That's cute! I like your "Frog-enstein." And you're absolutely right that what counts is the beauty inside. It takes some maturity to realize this. A perfect chapter for your Wisdom book!

what I'm logging for!" (longing?)

This is a wonderful read! It's casual language lends to a familiarity that brings the message home. There are several moments in this that hearken to such deep meaning and parallels and for me, one was your allusion to the Oracle of Delphi. The Oracle of Delphi was revered in ancient Greece however, history shows it's advice could be quite unreliable and baseless - just like the empty or false validation one could seek in their mirror. This is definitely a piece that I enjoyed reading and re-reading!

Spot-on! Witty and well-crafted.

"Mirror, mirror in [ON] the wall, tell me what I'm logging [longing] for!"

We forgot [FORGET] that we have alternatives, and we very well know

Once we let that beauty from inside [omit: to] shine on our faces,
[the entire perspective on our lives changes s/b our perspective changes] We don't care anymore about the mortal beauty because what surfaced [SURFACES] is much better

Here is displayed the relationship between a mirror and a lady. Mirror is a very help tool and we really need to use it every day. But it is so easy we are mesmerized by it and controlled by it. The image we see in the mirror gives us the basis for self judgement. We sometimes forget the never fading beauty shines from inner heart.
"What I discovered is that we are beautiful, but we are too clumsy to show it" I agree with the author.
