This poem is amazing. Lots of words and phrases I have never heard of and you did such a great job explaining the meaning of each. I think you have a winner for this contest. Great job.

Wild, expansive, beautiful poem about the unpredictable elements in outdoor Australia. It's something I can hardly imagine, living in this very civilized urban environment of New York City.
Thank you for the glossary you provided in your Notes. I was able to guess at some of the meanings of these unfamiliar terms, but couldn't possibly know them all! It sounds like much of Australia is still a wild and untamed territory, possibly well-loved for this very reason. Enjoy your beautiful homeland!

Hello Mrs Pizza, I was writing about the Northern Territory where there is wild land and aboriginal people. The coastal strips of Oz are over populated, everyone wants to live by the ocean. Our native folks spread across Oz have...wait for it...10,000 dialects! I hope you are keeping well and had your wet area fixed by now? Love, Kay xx

I love the photo of you and Elvis! Actually, this Mrs. Pizza hasn't had a slice in at least a month or two, or three... the pandemic seems to have cut down on the number of pizzerias in our neighborhood. And I am somewhat picky about my slices, I like a lot of sauce. For my husband, who is originally from Colombia, any greasy thing with cheese, will do. It's not his favorite food, anyway, so he's not very quick to bring it home, and of the two of us, he goes out, much more.
The wet area was supposed to be fixed, but I think there may be more than one, and it's dragging out. Just when I thought the gnats were finally gone, we had a slightly warm day, and another gnat appeared in the bathroom. Long story! Will tell more another time. Thank you for asking!
Your Oz is an amazing land. 10,000 dialects, that is mind boggling!
I hope that you're doing alright and keeping well. I would love to keep in touch more, sorry I haven't, we've been doing a church project which is "anti human trafficking," very time consuming but meaningful. The problem here in America is shamefully huge.
May God bless you and keep you safe, my Aussie friend.
    Love, Mary Kay xoxo

At least you have a Christian President now!
Hooray! Anti human trafficking is an old age problem. Prayer is the world's greatest wireless connection. Thinking of you, love Kay XX

It's hard to see into the hearts of our politicians -- only God can really do that. I don't actually trust our Democratic party; too much money involved. I know Trump doesn't play very nicely with others, but I don't think he can be bought, because he already has money. He has actually earmarked quite a lot of money to fight human trafficking. It's very unfortunate that our country has become so divided. It's really a mess, and I don't think this election is the end of it.
We are fully in agreement, that prayer is the original wireless connection!
And you will be happy to know that we had pizza tonight, delivered by my husband, Mr. Pizza!
    Love, Mary Kay xoxo

You have done a wonderful job presenting dynamic images throughout your free verse, Kay. Trees splitting, kangaroos bounding, birds screeching, and whips cracking all help to lend reality to the force of a terrible storm and its affect on the reader. Your author's notes share your true life experiences and give the posting another level of force. It is an excellent entry in the Free Verse contest.

Hello my friend, Thanks so much for your in-depth review. I was writing about the outback where whites don't live. Mainly tribal aborigines. There are cattle stations out there, some are a million acres (gives you some idea of the vastness) Love, Kay.

Whoooaa - that's a heck of a pic there, my lady, but your words have an 'ominousness' of their own... it's so amazing when a large storm becomes a true force of nature!! Thanx for sharing! ;) Yvette

G'day mate, Thanks so much for reading and glad you enjoyed. I was writing about the Northern Territory which is vast (cattle stations can be as big as a million acres) not many whites live out there, except for the station folk. Very lonely I think. It is what we call "black fella' country" they are the traditional owners. Y'all come back now! Love, Kay (coastal dweller me.)

Hello friend Nancy, I hate free verse! I wrote this poem in rhyme only to find out afterwards, it had to be a free verse...meanwhile back to editing. I don't see a challenge in free verse. OH, well. Thank you so much for reading. Love, Kay.

I was unaware cockatoos live in the wild in Australia. Your free verse form is vivid and the reader feels like she is there when the rains approach. I also was unaware of the goanna lizard. I imagine the rains are welcome when they do come.

Hello Elaine, Thanks so much for reading; our native animals/birds are unique. We do have cockatoos in the suburbs, thankfully the goanna live in the deserts! Some of our native birds can be tamed, especially the Rainbow Lorikeet. Love, Kay xx

You have captured the drama of a storm that feels like the heavens have burst open to flood the land down under! And then a few months later, there's a drought. Definitely a land of contrasts. Never boring!

Good luck in the contest Kace. I really enjoyed how you brought forth the beauty and the devastation of what the weather can do. I appreciated the fact that you had the patience to add narrative notes to explain what may be foreign to us not living in Australia. Great job.

Hello my friend, Thanks so much for your kind review. We speak a different language here, and our grammar is different too. Not much point if you don't understand what I am writing about. Blessings, Kay xx
