This free verse, The Bella Donna, tells an amazing story in verse of the dead singer. The flickering flames and preparation passed add to the poems creative flow.

Roy, thanks, I am preparing for a third open heart operation in the last twenty months so I guess i am binge writing because I will not be too mobile for a few weeks after the operation.

Another superb Halloween read. I like how this one did not overly rely on the scary factor, but the human elements too. It's a very interesting take on the spooky prompt.

This is a good write for the season. Your picure goes so well with the poem and tells the sad story of a lost lover and a never ending longing and search for that lover. Good writing.

pining with unrequited love
The Bella Donna

Hello, JLR,

Great alliteration: from flickering flames; candelabra casts... It's a good entry for the "Shades of Halloween" event in Picture This. Well done, my friend.

JLR,
Bella Donna is searching for an ending to her unrequited love song with Casanova. Everyone in the opera house says that she disappeared- crossing the thin veil to the other side....But, I wonder....just wonder if Casanova threw her over for another whose voice was higher and whose love song... more satisfied his romantic/operatic need? Because that is Casanova's reputation after all. Yes?
All kidding aside JLR....I got a ghostly kick out of this poem. Thank you for sharing your talents here..

Interesting use of the prose format to create a great flow to the language in these stanzas. I thought the scenes of someone reaching out and failing to grasp what they were reaching for were pretty well orchestrated for this effect. You kept a good ear for the music of the language and the flow of it to build up these spurts of rhythm interspersed with dramatic breaks, much like the scenes in a live play. I think it worked really well. estory

-A well written poem
for the picture challenge, Jim.
-You tell a good story and
creative a vivid word picture.
-I like the description of
the bella donna singing
"her last Italian aria of love."
-A very good concluding verse
and the ending "evermore."
-Well done!

This is a story of a woman who searches for love beyond death. I like that you use Halloween and the blues moon to make an eerie story ambiance.
Some believe that the dead can pass through the weaker veil beween worlds on Halloween.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
