Thank you for your review. I appreciate it, Tom.
Unfortunately, my aunt passed away at age 99.

Sometimes we never know where that person might come from to step and make a difference. But I would be willing to guess that many times it's an aunt or uncle who step up first when possible. Great story, Mary. Thanks for sharing and best of luck in the contest!

What a lovely tribute to aunts, Mary. Those with brothers and sisters, will become an aunt, and it's a position many would love. My husband had an aunt and uncle who never had children and they were so loving to him, and supporting to both his parents. There should be an aunt and uncle day, just as there is a mothers/fathers day. I really enjoyed reading this. Well done. :)) Sandra xx

I believe in your premise, which you did a great job in presenting. A lot of emotion came through your writing-a lot of love also. No doubt, a piece of writing that all can agree on.

This is very well written, with love, Your story brings to my mind my own story; a broken girl from a disfunctional home, and my auntie came to me, took me in their family vacations, holidays. I became her children best friend; I had a one of a kind n adoptive family, and when it I grew up normal, I think.

I hadn't really considered the truths in your article. But as I look into my own family history I remember two aunts who treated me as their child during the summers. I was fortunate to come from a happy childhood with both parents doing their parts, but those aunts took me into their homes during the summer, so I could play little league.

A very well-written prose about the role of aunts in the life of children. Aunts are often fun to have around, they are not as strict as our mothers and they are quite entertaining.

Good point--touching examples from your experience and observations re wonderful aunts--probably the reason that close family friends are honorary Aunts. I had one myself.

I am so glad you had an aunt who would take you and your sister in and show them love. Nicely written story and it touched my heart.

Mary,
What a smart and unusual post! I agree, aunts do not get the praise they deserve for that role (or uncles, either, for that matter.) It's an important role - the one who stands steady from the outside when the inside seems to be falling apart.
Favorite line:
--> While she may have been in the background, some aunts have kept the foundation strong.
One Note:
--> emotional or financial support (or) just a shoulder to cry on.
Thanks a bunch!
