Interesting story about the Marine Corps Reserve helping out during that flood. I saw the movie "Fargo" but didn't care for it. When are the Sioux going to take that money? What a huge settlement. I just recently heard in a lecture that the Indians (excuse me, Native Americans) had no horses or cattle until the explorers from the Old World brought them over. I didn't know that. Interesting quickie tour of North Dakota. judi

Bill, This is a very interesting and well written chapter you have penned about North Dakota. I remember that movie Fargo. It was kind of weird, but I watched it anyway. Thanks for sharing. Blessings, Teri

This is another great look at one of the fifty States. I found it very informative about the Sioux nation. These people have character for sure.

Poor Sioux. As usual, we take, take, take. I've always wanted to go to both Dakotas. I would love to see all the history there. I'm enjoying your pieces on the states. It's a min-vacation. 8-)

Loved all the information in this post, Bill! I didn't know about the compensation to the Sioux tribes. The "Fargo" movie was quite memorable and I still remember that picture (on the postage stamp) that the artist husband of the main character policewoman.
Question:
was on my May to under-explain (May? )

Fixed that a while ago, but thanks for pointing it out. Thank you, also, for the pump. : )

Dear Bill, I continue to be astonished at the number of interesting facts that one can dig up about places only miles from where we live if we but search the Internet. The two most intriguing pieces of information you presented in this chapter was about: North Dakota having the highest structure in the western hemisphere and the debacle that now stands unresolved about the land.

This is a very interesting story. I had no idea that there was an unsolved case. I wonder how much land it is, i will have to do a bit of research. Nice job-right at the beginning you wrote May and I think you meant way.

You came up with a painless way for me to learn geography and be entertained while I'm doing it. Good job!
A couple of tiny things:
I just finished North Carolina and was on my May to under-explain South Carolina [Your "W" is upside down.]
In seems all white settlements were banned there, [IT seems ...]
Thanks for sharing, Bill.

Well done on North Dakota. Truthfully, I only knew about the refusal of the money only recently. I think we know little of the Plain States so even the tower was new information.
Thank you for the education
