Oh, Jesse!
Such a despicable situation - and one that resonates with me having witnessed the ill-treatment of my loved ones at the hands of "caretakers" in nursing homes.
As selfish as this sounds, I hope I die quickly - sparing my own loved ones and myself the indignities that I know will face me.
A sobering write, Jesse ...
Stay strong and positive!

The elderly and disabled are often abused in homes and we hear about it all the time. I even saw a man neglected in hospital when my father was ill and staff shortages meant some weren't properly cared for. Not sure what happened to you here Jesse and your manhood was obviously threatened in some way. A personal write, love Dolly x

Jesse,
Powerful sentiments indeed. The passion and clarity you bring to the issue/ problem....is palpable.
The struggle you have shared with us of neglect and abuse brings the words crime against humanity to the tip of my tongue.
Thank you for sharing your talents and your passion to let us in just a little bit.

Bravo, Jesse! I wish everyone could think for themselves. We are quickly moving into a society where free speech is being allowed for some, but not for all. It's like they never heard of the first amendment. I'm glad you posted this and spoke from your heart.

Refreshing write. Please take care!
Sending you my best today as always,
Sally XOs....

I have been led to believe that care for the elderly and disabled in the U.S.
has improved. Of course, this depends on MANY factors--location, who manages a facility, etc. It shocks me to know that men might be treated differently--that's horrible. Your poem is so moving, emotional--and victorious!

A very well-written poem about your feelings about being dependent on people who look after you but misuse and neglect you needs to or their own agenda.

I'm so sorry you were treated that way. When my dad was in a home, he'd had surgery and wasn't recovering well so was there for over a month, we had to get after the staff to do what they should do anyway. I think they were used to people sticking there family there and barely checking on them. They scurried around when they saw us coming. There were 5 of us kids and we took turns, so stayed on them. He never complained, but he was a bit out of it. Thanks for sharing with us. Well done free verse.

Your poem is well thought out in all ways. You make several valid points. There is good flow and use of scattered rhyme. I understand what you are saying about how hospitals/nursing homes take away one's dignity. It is vital for you to hold onto your personal views no matter the circumstances. Those places, though they help physically, do cause a loss of dignity. I have personally seen this happen to others.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

This work has reached the exceptional level

When I was in high school in the mid 60's I worked in a nursing home and was saddened by the regimentations the nuns imposed on all the patients. There were only two male patients who were off limits to teenage girls, which I did appreciate, so I can only imagine what you have experienced. Most poignant and thought provoking. It should be published and posted in every hospital and nursing home.

I am so glad this poem personally resonated with you, and your experience as a young person in the mid-'60s working in a nursing home certainly brings home the attitude still prevalent now. Thank you very much for sharing your story. It is a thrill to receive a six-star review from you--this has made my day (and week) special! I am honored to see that you think this should be posted on every hospital and nursing home wall. I'd love to make the difference for other folks subjected to mistreatment at these places! Bringing awareness to others is one of my main reasons for writing this. The other is for the cathartic relief writing offers. Have a wonderful day, and thank you again for the exceptional review and rating.
    Take care,
    Jesse

This poem speaks a story that the man was taught good lessons in hospitals now he is no more interested to visit the place unless his heart tells him the need of doing; well said, well done; thanks for sharing this. ALCREATOR
