I'm trying to catch up on the reading of your story. Its easy to loose track of the chapters unless you see them in the story and chapter review list. Crayfish is a popular food here, too.

Thank you for the review and comments. Crayfish is very popular in Louisiana but the ones we were familiar with in Mississippi were in very dirty creeks and not many ate them.

Hi Beth. This was a very informative chapter. finding babysitters (reliable ones) is still a problem today.

Your last paragraph is very well written an dI liked trhe way you used it.

"We wondered what changes another year might bring in our lives. There had been quite a few during the twenty years since we became husband and wife. We had coped with many ups and downs over the years, but neither of us regretted the hand we had been dealt. We were still in love and felt that we had been truly blessed with a wonderful family."

In the future, your grandkids will love this entire book, beth. Bless you. Bob

This is a very interesting chapter where you portray all the changes you have to traverse, from personal family ones, to the education system, to the presidential election back then. It's written in an engaging style that draws the reader in, reminding us of similar times in our own lives for comparison.

Thank you for the review and comments. I'm hoping it resonates with others and triggers memories for them as well. We all have our stories and we have quite a bit in common.

Captivating! You masterfully weave in current events to put the piece in context. Cheers. LIZ

There were so many interesting developments in your family life, as it continued during this time. You were a very good and attentive mother! That's quite a balancing act, managing three teenagers with shifting schedules, a toddler with a babysitter and your own work schedules.

It's helpful that you provided some historical context, from time to time, about current events.

Yes, it's funny that Connie called the renegade crayfish, a fish! I wonder what it would be -- maybe an amphibian? I'm not very familiar with crayfish either.

Apparently the divisions of the animal kingdom aren't firmly fixed yet, in a toddler's mind. The fact that it already had "fish" in its name, was apparently good enough for Connie.

It's sad, that your sister-in-law's family had such a run of misfortunes. It was kind that your husband wasn't hard on her husband, about the money he owed you, after he got sick.

Here are the errors I found, etc.:

but we didn't even realize the civilized people ate such things.

I really like your concluding paragraph in this chapter, the way you emphasized your love for one another. That had to be a very important factor in making your demanding family life work so well.

    You're very welcome, Beth.
I looked it up, and discovered that the different parts of the animal kingdom are much more complicated than I
    realized.
Crayfish are arthropods (along with lobsters, insects and many other types of creatures in that phyla). Other phyla have worms and many other creatures we often don't think about.
The phyla "Chordata" includes several classes of fish, besides birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals. I never imagined it was so complex. No wonder Connie couldn't find any other word for the crayfish!
Blessings and love, Mary Kay xoxo

I was sure I had already reviewed this but I get lots of interruptions these days so here I go again.
Loved the crawdad/crayfish story! I would probably be worried at that age, too! She must have not needed naps already by then.

Sorry to hear about your brother-in-law. That had to be weighing on your husband.

Interesting about that election. After being deceived by "Tricky Dick," the country wanted a Christian like Carter. However, he wasn't a strong president but a devoted believer who kept doing more for people after his presidency.

So glad that you counted your blessings with your lovely family!

Dear Beth, You continue to write very well constructed memories which I know your prodigy will enjoy just as we, your reviewers do.
Thank you again for including the information about the election between Carter and Ford. Presidents are an excellent way to keep your timeframe together.

And again, Beth, you've written it so very well. It is good that the children took so very well to their new school and made friends.
Now, the presidental election then was as if on another planet than it is today. I much prefer as it used to be. But I'm nevertheless following this one. I think we all are in Europe. But then again, I'm half American. Ulla:)))

Thank for a great review and excellent comments. You are right. Presidential elections in those days was far different from today. Whoever won back then became the president for all. These days people are so divided it may cause a civil war no matter who wins.

Oh, I sure hope you're not facing another one. But I agree, America is deeply devided.
