I guess, the message for us all is that life is full of surprises and hazards along the way, but if we are positive and have faith, things will turn out just fine. Lovely lines of rhyming verse to convey your sincere message. That wee boy will jump out of a cracker and surprise you one day. I am talking about an English Christmas cracker which you pull and there is a surprise inside! Enjoyable read. Faye

Thank you, Faye, for your thoughtful response to this poem :-) I used to buy my kids the English crackers each Christmas at an international store :-) Brooke

A lovely picture as is the one on your profile page. Basically you are saying we don't know many things in this poem with rhyme and meter.

Nice to think that happiness might pop up anywhere. I guess that's what having an optimistic viewpoint is all about. Sawyer's so cute, easily amused by the shopping bag. Well done, Brooke.

Hello Brooke,
Thought provoking nice piece of poetry beautifully depicting its theme!
Wording is simple as well as impressive.
Smooth flow with lovely rhyming scheme and lively imagery.
These lines are particularly noteworthy:
"You never know when fireflies
might spark in dead of night --
when every star has dimmed and died,
but then there comes new light."
Excellent!

I love the form of this poem, with the 'you'll never know' negative line, ending each stanza with a positive 'but then there'.

No we don't, and that's a certainty. Most normally we don't like surprises, but the way you put it makes me want one. I've experienced good luck with all three events, but am somewhat leery about closing my eyes. Excellent ballad form and alternate line rhyming. Kenny

True--you never know!~~

Uplifting and well penned with fluid flow, flawless meter, good rhyming and great imagery to convey the theme. Sounds like a song lyric with the bouncy beat. Nice presentation. Superb phonetics with all those S sounds in the last stanza, especially.

Good alliteration of D here:

might spark in dead of night --
when every star has dimmed and died,

Nice poem.

Love,
rd

Surprises are nice sometimes, hopefully most of them. This one looks like it was a playful stunt. That must be a pretty big shopping bag.. hehe.

Brooke, just happened to stop by and so glad I did. This is another that I like so very much. We never really know when something happens and surprises us with happiness. May we hang on and take a chance, because we'll never know if we don't. BTW, love the pic of Sawyer in the shopping bag, and I bet he had fun. . .Sharon

I LIKE THIS POEM AND I LIKE THIS CHILD-SAWYER I BELIEVE.HE IS SO CUTE,HE COULD DO VERY WELL AS A CHILD MODEL. I LIKE YOUR POEMS- THIS ONE TOO! BECAUSE THEY GIVE HOPE IN HOPELESS SITUATIONS THAT PREVAIL AROUND THE WORLD TODAY.I DON'T KNOW ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE,BUT I DO NEED RAYS OF LIGHT IN LIFE'S ENDLESS TUNNELS.SOMETIMES WE JUST SEEM TO GET OUT OF ONE BAD EVENT ONLY TO WALK STRAIGHT INTO ANOTHER GLOBAL CRISIS. THANKS!!
