I love rainy days. It refreshes my soul and it quenches my thirst of freedom. Very well written and fun-to-read! The wizard (God) will surely love this poem! God bless... c", Mae

What a fun poem about such earthly delights as rain and worms and buttercups, daisies and the beauty to be found in weeds. Thank goodness for fanciful mortals like grandma who knows for sure that wizards exist. Your poem is flawlessly written from beginning to end and the fact that the ending does verify the existence of magic makes the contest entry very appealing to children of all ages. Best of luck in the contest, Brooke. Blessings, Linda

Wow, Brooke, this is wonderful and it reminds me of today. I just poured rain this afternoon. Though I did not see any worms, I think they were out somewhere. This poem is nicely formed and was an easy read with the rhythm. Thanks for sharing. Miss Sally

Very well done.

The cadence was strong and pulled me along in the story telling. I loved the touch of fantasy as the rain storm was described and its resulting magic in the lawn.

Rhyming was good as well. Sometimes rhymes are forced to simply make the sound match. This was not the case here. The sounds made the story richer.

And although I tend to agree with Grandpa :) I think I have seen the magic in my grass.

Well done.

This was a lovely poem with fantastic imagery... I particularly enjoyed the following verses...very excellent rhyming schemes that made for enjoyable reading.

Rain is falling drop by drop,
one two three four five six plop --

Worms are popping from the ground,
wiggling, squiggling round and round --
one worm, two worms, three worms, four,
as the rain begins to pour.

Drops have gathered, puddles form,
plops aplenty from the storm --
hundreds, thousands, millions, more,
where there was no rain before.

I shared with my young nephew, who enjoyed me reading this to him...and sang along with me!

This is one of those poems that children will just love to hear, memorize and say, over and over. The rhymes and the alliteration, along with the words kids love (like plop, and wriggling worms, and wizards, who make gold) will make this a big hit. You must publish!

Would have been nice to see that Sawyer in this, but like you said, rain would help. Well done Brooke. Enjoyed it much. My blessings and support.

Brooke, you are an expert when it comes to children's poetry. Since Harry Potter, wizards have become the good guys. When we were kids I don't think they were seen in the same way, such as in "The Wizard of Oz."

Kids love umbrellas, especially here out west where they are a novelty. As a preschool teacher when it did rain, I'd have them taking turns walking into a yard under one. Their parents also needed an education on an umbrella's purpose. It took a long time to figure out that if used, they might not get so wet. --Elaine
