In your notes, your opening comment...my daughter interviewed a WWII veteran when she was in junior high. He saw a lot of action and was in the liberating unit at Dachau. He told her of once being in a foxhole with one of his men hit by a mortar. The man was an atheist. As he was dying, and knew it, he asked Al to pray for him. Al said to him, but you're an atheist...the man responded he was afraid to die and again asked him to pray for him, which Al did. I've never forgotten that, or Al being overcome with emotion at the telling. Al was 93 years old at the time, and the memory was obviously just as fresh in his mind.

This is a really wonderful poem with layers of faith and meaning. Well done, Roy.

    Thanks for sharing that Mary. I was once an atheist, until I realised it was ridiculous, I didn't know there was no God. It was many years later, when I knew for certain there was, and He loved me beyond all measure, I knew Him for certain. His love is so great, there is nothing that precludes us from His willingness to forgive. Thanks for the wonderful review, blessings, Roy

What you say is true, at death's door it is common for those to wonder what is waiting for them when they cross over. I have seen happiness on people's faces and fear, depending on the type of life they have lived and the legacy they have left behind. A very well written poem, an excellent entry for the contest.
Best of luck to you.
Good wishes to you always, Lu

Beautiful Faith poem entry Mr. Roy. So true, we are all suddenly 'believers' when death comes knocking, so why wait, why not explore Christ's possibilities and promises? blessings...

And in the end nothing tells us what is beyond that door of darkness but sheer faith,
for all claims of ghosts and seances, like telepathy and telekinesis, turn out to be flawed experiments...excellent poem, Roy.

Captivating image! :) You caught my eye right away. I loved the part: but somewhere deep I feel God's kiss, to brush hearts brow...salvation's bless.
That part gave me goose bumps. Beautifully written! I'm going to share this with a friend of mine. I think they will love this just as I do.
Always you fan,
Shana :)

Well, sir, you've done it again - inspiring, sublime poetry, and I sure love to think I am protected and cherished, washed in the Savior's blood. I have hope that every day is a new one, that old sins, no matter how awful, are washed away with repentance and faith, but I wish I could be as sure as some people I know...oh, I don't mean that I am lacking faith, only that some sins might be beyond redemption! (Wow, that sounds pretty bad, like I have done awful things...LOL. I mean, turning one's back on God, refusing to obey - intentionally, stubbornly listening to one's logic instead of one's heart, even knowing it's wrong - that kind of thing...YIKES! *grin*

Best of luck - this is wonderful, Roy.

    Yes you're right, Dawn, the love of God is above ALL sin, you know Christ has obliterated all wrong, not just some, all! There is no sin that is above, rest in that my friend, you are forgiven, read Psalms 103-104. Bless you my friend, for a marvellous treview, blessings, Roy

If God be true then all pride's lies-
are washed away by Jesus' cries;
I'm hid, I'm hid, by all that's good,
that crimson stream of Jesus' blood.

Roy,

This reads like a hymn. It's truly lovely! You should see about having it put to music - especially the last stanza! Thanks!

Happy holidays to you and your family, Roy;
-"I can a state the mocking sound." I have heard it three or four times of my life and thank God I believe for that sound came. To be branded by death is a scary moment in everyone's life but especially for those who are your loved ones and friends who worry about you the most. When you mentioned the fact that only people in the trenches believe well as are those who really are friends and close to you pray just as hard for your well-being that they also become close to the Lord.
-Once a man walked in on WC Fields and asked him what was he doing with the Bible in his hand while he was lying in bed and very sick close to death. In WC Fields says I'm just looking for loopholes for even him on his near to death bed was still somewhat believing in the Lord as a nonbeliever for most of his life.
-I really enjoy your poetry as it reads very fluidly in the enjambment is perfectly written without a hiccup or a syntactical break in the reading and the writing of your poem.
-Thank you for sharing this Roy,and take care and hope all your family and friends have a very happy holiday.
Alex

Beautiful statement of faith! I like how you start with the grim and dark reality of death and then describe that spiritual struggle of faith. I especially like the part "pride's quill write epitaphs upon my will." Great ending. Indeed, "thanks be to God Who's given us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
