This sounds the most awful thing to have to contend with but it seems to me that in sorting it out in your mind in order to write this poem is as good a way of beginning to cope as any.

Hi Relda,

No doubt it must be a very tough thing to accept and come to terms with, both for you and for Bud, that he is afflicted with this horribly cruel illness. Sometimes life just isn't fair. That you both still have hope and faith is a miracle in itself ... something that you both can hold on to, and something that will hopefully help see you both through these trying times.

"Petition, faith, acceptance, trust" ... this speaks volumes!

Well written and presented ... both your poem and your author notes, Relda.

Connie

Connie - thanks for the review and the encouragement. Talking about this (writing) has been good therapy for me and for Bud. It helps to accept it.

    God bless and my best,

Relda, I am so sorry your husband is going through this. I do like your notes and how you say you are both Christians, and say Christians are no immune to problems. The last 11 months I have had severe pain in my back, some days it is worse than others. But knowing Jesus, helps me to know that when my life is done, I will no longer suffer pain. Patricia

Patricia - God is good. I'm am also blessed to get to know folks on FS like you. One of these days, we'll meet face-to-face in heaven. Now there's a neat thought - maybe even a good concept for a poem!

Thank you so much for your concern and I'm praying for your back and your faith - that the Lord will comfort and sustain you and fill you confirmation of His presence.

When I read your story the other day about Bud, I looked up what Ir was (ALS) we have a friend at church who gets around in a walking frame, because of MS, his faith is amazing, many times he asks for prayer.for healing, many times he remains the same, but I've watched him become gradually worse, but he remains faithful, but he remains undaunted, beautifully written, emotively presented in couplets, remain strong, I will pray, Relda, well done, blessings, Roy

Roy - your encouragement comes at a needed moment. Thank you. And it means so much to be on your prayer list.

Lots of folks are facing suffering and being more than conquerors through Christ. I pray God keeps me strong when my time of testing comes. The way the world is going, I'm thinking all Christians are on the brink of testing as never before.

    Stay strong, brother.

    Your sister in the Lord,

Any illness is not easy specially when there is little or no hope for a cure or improvment. We. Have to accept the condition and live with it and make the best of it as far as we can.

This poem embodies the strength of faith and the power of positive thoughts to bring us through the rough times.
Prayers coming to you for Bud's return to physical health. I think his emotional and spiritual health is just fine...thank you for posting.

You have the Love of Christ to keep you both strong in mind and spirit and I will pray for you and your hubby. because know it is must be a difficult journey ever day to live with a disease that is so disabling as ALS, like your poem describes somewhat. And very much appreciate your author notes describing in detail what it can do to the person afflicted . And hope those blood samples Bud contributed to research will help to find a cure for ALS. And hugs to you both and have a good weekend!

Thanks for sharing...Caressa_08

Life has so many twists and turns we cannot see and maybe it's best we can't. The voice of the speaker here is loud and clear and even though illness and dementia are making their presence known the speaker has faith in his wife, friends, and especially God.

Relda, First of all I would like to say how sorry I am for both of you in your time of distress. That you can still keep your faith is admirable. A very strong contest is this beautifully written poem. All the best. Ulla:))

Ulla - thank you for your beautiful sentiment and encouragement. It really helps Bud and me to be able to write/read about this - it's part of the 'acceptance' process, I think.

    God bless and my best,

omG!!!! After reading the author's notes, I teared up and choked trying to breathe. So sorry that you both are going through such trying times, but can acutely observe your faith in God to help you through all this turmoil. That being said, the poem is a great entry into the Faith contest. Great couplets throughout and good, smooth read. I enjoyed the read very much. Good luck in the contest. God bless and hugs, Susanne

Susanne - Thank you for your review and encouragement. My Bud and I have a lot to be grateful for - his ALS is moving a lot more slowing than the other patients in our Mayo clinic group review. That's another mystery with ALS - there is no rhyme or reason to how fast it progresses.

We heard, yesterday, that one of our dearest friends has pancreatic cancer. He is Bud's age. At our age, having a life-ending diagnosis is a fact of life. I am so glad we have Jesus.

Thank God it is not progressing at a fast rate. My former fiancé of 18 years has MS. In 1996, through my mother reading the back ads in National Enquirer, she found a new drug to stop the progression of MS. He is now on the pill form rather than the needle. I remain his caregiver and he has not had a relapse since 1991. I am so grateful to God for his intervention in such a weird way (my mother finding it in an ad in the National Enquirer!). God bless you both, you will be in my prayers! Hugs, Susanne

Relda, thanks very much, honey! I just pray to God that he doesn't have a relapse and end up in a wheelchair or nursing home! God bless and hugs, Susanne
