This is an enjoyable read and very therapeutic to express the humerous side of parenting, although not humerous at the
time of the bills and loss of a college semester, you write well about life experiences and I look forward to reading more from you.

BethShelby, very interesting. I do appreciate the humor, but I'm smiling out of the left side of my mouth :) Your execution of the content was wonderful, but the content was too real :) I love it. Another good job. pat

Always saying "No" does sound like a good Idea. As you say you can go away, think about it, and change your mind. But heaven forbid if we change our mind after saying yes. My husband and I bought our daughter her first car at the age of 19. She drove it proudly for a couple of weeks and then cooked the motor when she did not check the temperature gauge. The radiator hose had busted so the motor over heated. $2,500.00 later, which was more than what we paid for the car in the first place, she was back on the road. I am so glad those days are over. She is now 26 years old. Thanks for the great read, it brought back my own memories and showed that we are one of many.

I was intrigued by the title to your story, started reading it and I like it...because I am the opposite, most of the time I say YES and later I regretted. But I am learning. Great writing.

Maybe you should change your initial response to let me think about and then say no. Buys you more time to build an air tight case against being hoodwinked. This is an entertaining read. Take care. Nick.

Oh yes, I've been in your shoes and boy, like you have I learnt, not to say anything other then talk to me later. You have captured a very familiar situation well, in this brilliant piece of writing.

Interesting story. I have several things I could comment on but since they have no relevance to the writing of the story, I will keep my opinions to myself. All I will way is it was an interesting story and well written.

I prefer to leave the raising of children to the actual parents (unless their is abuse of course). Each parent has their own style. I have never seen any that seem to work at the time. However, like a miracle, about 10 or 15 years later, most all of them worked out after all. I still enjoyed the story.

Hi there BethShelby. I had to laugh reading this, so real to life. But, you women must realise, young boys need 'street cred' (apparently), and getting a car is part of that. I've had three sons, and I've had to 'bite the bullet' with all of them over their first cars. I read every word you wrote, knowing I had experienced something similar.

Some things for you to consider:

self-defence - self-defense

"May I spend the night with Tricia?"() (T)hat may seem innocent enough, but don't count on it.

"What do you think about us buying a little land for investment purposes?()" (I)t's going to be a while before all the details filter through.

Number one(,) was our finances. We had three kids in college and a young one coming on. Number two(:) his sister, less than two years older, had no car, nor did his twin sister.

Son, Don(,) wasn't ready to concede defeat.

"How's the car coming?()"

Oh, it's coming(,)" and quickly change the subject.

So(,) before you call me negative, walk a few miles in my shoes.

Still, this brought back memories for me. Good stuff.

I hope this helps, and I will re-grade after editing.
Rgards, Pete.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry to laugh at your misfortunes, but you really have written this in such a way that I can't help it. I recognize a lot of what you describe, being a mum of 7 myself. I've fallen into the bear-traps of kids omissions so many times myself! Older and wiser now - I expect you are too!
Very well written and extremely entertaining.
Warmest wishes,
Kat

Beth, I never knew it was you! I had blinders on. Mind you, there was a 'certain something' I suppose, which gave me a clue that it might be you...the sense of humour behind it all! :)
    Best wishes
