If the truth were a lie
And a lie was the truth
Who could you trust?
And what would you do?
Now then take some time
To think this through
For it's a mind bending
Perplexing avenue
How would you know
Just what to do?
When the truth is a lie
And the lie is a truth
Now wait just a damn minute
Let me think this through
For isn't truth really true
And a lie a falsehood
How can the reverse
Be true
If true is false
And false is true
What a dilemma
Just what would you do?
If the truth was a lie
And a lie was the truth... John Allen Kingsland

This tanka counts perfect, but I think it's more than a tanka, it's a combination of tanka, acrostic and you know what else, because of the rhyming. So my answer to your question is: You're hiding the noun 'true,' it means 'truth or reality' and it's in plural. I guess my bonus is the pleasure of reading it!

There's something hidden? I could figure about speaking the truths and telling lies. You were telling lies but for all they could be the truth. Only God knows the real, suppressed truth.

This was a fun read! I may not have gotten whatever you say you were hiding in the style, but that's okay. I love how you used a little light-hearted fun to get your point across! Great job!

Great litle tanka. The truth can be ever so difficult at times. but shading the truth to stroke our self pride or ego seems to flow so easily. It was nice that this tanka was also an acrostic. Nice writing. Thanks for sharing

Excellent arrangement of words once again. Enjoyed it very much. People often look for the easy way out when faced with telling the truth. They feel that telling a lie will help them avoid pain. This is only a short term solution and only creating an emotional debt.

It is hard to speak the truth when there is so much pressure to be politically correct. It is a beautiful ability to be brave in the face of tremendous falsehood and stand up for the truth. Your tanka is funny and thought-provoking.

And the subject of your poem we all lie, yes are half truth, we are all the same even if we try, try hars we can not tell the truth even to ourselves If we could we would all live much better I think. If we could. If I could.

As usual you never cease to amaze me with your writing. This write is remarkable. What is the truth? Doesn't every lie have a hint of truth and every truth have a hint of a lie. I may be a little jaded in the truth department.
