The beauty of roses will always adorn my home, for they bring life to any garden as well as "scented memories" of love, Melissa. I like your pink roses. I have red, gold, two-tone, pink, small, medium, large. I lost my white rose as well as my purple rose.

I adore roses too and give you heartfelt condolences on loosing the purple and white... I have four rose bushes.. total, but plan to add more this year. Thanks for the delightful review.

I can imagine someone giving this a casual reading, thinking "Oh, that's nice", giving it five stars and moving on. I hope people let this sink in and appreciate its brilliance. Starting with the wonderful phrase, "scented memories", the rose bush becomes a metaphor. The fact that they are outside and the person remembering is inside evokes old age reflecting on youth - a part of the metaphor that is reinforced by the image of snow and the personification of the rose bush, that is now sleeping.

Awesome! What poetry is supposed to be.

I was just today thinking of planting a rose bush just like this, this summer!

Thank you for sharing these "scented memories" and the lovely photograph. I admired your personifying the pink rose bush. I could almost smell its perfume under the snow! Smiles- Joan

Lovely thought, Melissa.
Well expressed.
Most like to think of Winter as a season of death.
Not me.
I like to believe Winter is merely a new chapter to a new beginning in the unyielding, never ending cycle of life.
Well penned...

Well said. Sleep as we all do in the winder of rest. A time was healing and mending. It is so important to well being. I sleep against my will at time. Nature knows best. Blessings, Barbara

That's a bad thing about winter everything sleeps making the world seem so dull, colorless. Your poem is well-written, interesting, disheartning but unfortunatly true. Your artwork is beautiful, I love that light pink color.

Do you have lots of flowers in your yard? Perhaps you are a Master Gardener?? Anyway, your flower poem is lovely. I smell the scent as I read. Roses are my favorite. TA ":~)

They are my favorite too... I have a few rose bushes that I love and I am a certified Master Gardener here in central Virginia too. I enjoy having beautiful flowers around.

I like that the "rose bush sleeps." And the scent of rose is not forgotten as we know smells conjure up the memories in a powerful way. Lovely picture of English roses, too!

Hello Melissa!
So...the very first thing I noticed when I clicked on your offering was the photograph. I thought to myself, 'That's a David Austin English rose!' Imagine how thrilled I was to discover I was right! But I digress...
Your poem is lovely - filled with strong emotion and imagery...just like jasmine and daylilies... :)
Think spring!
And thank you for sharing!
