Good morning, Fawcus: Thank you for the lesson on this kind of poetry - Ampeletum (I googled this) - never heard of this one before but your notes are thorough and I may try it one day. I liked your poem. Your beat and the flow of the words was great. I enjoyed the sense of humor and was so happy that you did not use the actual cuss words. Thank you for this - it was greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for your review of "A Farkin' Crow", Tier. I've scarcely looked at FS in the last couple of months. Other priorities! However, will probably be back again before too much longer - if for no other reason than to enjoy your poems! All the best for 2018 and beyond. Tony

I knew you were an Aussie from the moment I saw the title. Well written, funny and reminded me of poor Graham Kennedy, who you may remember, was fired from TV because of his very authentic crow call. I live in Queensland and hear the raucous calls daily so the imagery in this piece is so vivid. A very enjoyable read. Thank you.

This work has reached the exceptional level

It is quite hilarious splendeferous in expletive's awash and quite graphic to boot,
I can hear the bootless cries as the guy is getting birdie poo in the eye as well.
Apt presentation with this illustration.

I was in our local HEB grocery store and was putting my groceries in the back of my crossover and a crow was attempting to eat my grapes. I couldn't believe how brazen this crow was.

Crossing swords here with a bird here and this poem reminded me of a Hitchcock movie, so full of action and I felt the pain on my ear! Best wishes, love Dolly x

WHAT awesome powerful-looking crow, and seems like crow is attacking this man. Man's fury is expressed in variations of his profanity words. I guess these are cuss words. Looks like crow doesn't want to give up til pecks man's hat or head. NICE! lol liberty justice

Thanks, LJ. Yes, the squawk of the crow echoes the cuss words of the poor victim.

Howdy, Tony;
-excuse me for my ignorance but I do not know what Ampeletum (wing-spread?) means? I tried the American Webster's dictionary and even new words?
-I could understand the other words are more the rhetoric and local dictation of the area and with my imagination, I could figure out what they meant. On the lighter side, of course. "Oh...shite!"
-I found you very interesting rhyme scheme to be very effective. The tempo of your poem. The transitional rhymes between verses was also very effective in keeping my attention.
-When I was in Sacramento or swooped on and attacked by magpies protecting their nest and I said more than "Oh Fark!".
-Superbly active and demonstrative imagery that was very descriptive. The expression used in each one of your metaphorical(..?) imagery. In the reference to van Gogh made me laugh in a very odd way, yet, still is a great expression.
-12gauge is a mighty big shotgun yet. I've seen a 10gauge never seen it shot the 12gauge I have.
-Thanks were very entertaining and take care and have a good one, Tony.
Alex
-PS: does your bed-and-breakfast have a website?

Hi, Alex. I've appended a note to the poem now explaining what an Ampeletum is. It's a poem of four quatrains created by a former fanstorian, Jejo. Each line consists of 6 syllables, with no required meter. The rhyme scheme is Abcb bded fgcg Aehe. The capital A means that this first line of the poem is repeated as the first line of the final stanza. Also note that lines B,C and E have rhyming sounds that are repeated in later stanzas. I couldn't resist reviewing CPs poem in like form!
The B&B website address is www.brooklands.net.au.
I've never used the 12-gauge against a crow or magpie, but it's useful on the very rare occasions when Eastern Brown snakes venture too close to the house. On the whole, I find that guns are just an expression of fear and insecurity - emotions that fade as one gets to know oneself better.

I agree with you in many ways Tony that a gun is just a mere extension of one's hatred or anger. But it's a sad expression when one has to release the tension within the gun to express hate to the point of death. Thanks for your explanation on the word Ampeletum it was very helpful and though I recognize your rhyming scheme I wasn't too familiar with the use of the A and B parts of the rhyming but now I know and thanks for the update and the knowledge. Take care my friend and God bless.

This is a terrific response to closetpoetjester's poem :) I must have a look at the ampeletum poetry form and give it a try. Great use of, "fark" to have the crow immitate her use of the real four letter word lol! I had a good laugh reading reviews to find out that Robyn Corum chases crows off her property with a bb gun. Our crow's favorite tree has been empty lately. They must be visiting you?

I read Phillipa's poem yesterday - this is a great response - equaling hers in humor, form, rhyme, and profanity - which is to say, it's brilliant! Is "fark" a real Aussie-ism or did Phillippa make that up? Either way, it fits the poem wonderfully.
"Bleeding like Van Gogh" is a great line - he can rest well knowing his ear was not lost in vain.

Thanks for the laugh.
