Lovely work, and you touch on a wide range of aspects of poetry here. You have given a detailed and touching personal insight into what poetry means to you, well done indeed and thank you for sharing!

This is a superb entry for this contest. I enjoyed the entire poem and especially like this verse:
it just depends on the person
reading and writing to determine
what poetry means to them-
the flower or the stem....
I see this as a top contender in this contest and sincerely wish you all the best. I enjoyed this one immensely.

I believe you've said it all here. It's probably one of your best to date and for that, here's a six. I don't know why I thought this was a poem of the month and not for a distant contest. It should be poem of the month!
Good luck, and Best wishes,
Rita

I agree that poetry is the words one cannot hear. I think it is also the words not written - the hidden meanings within the words. Good luck in the contest:)

I sometimes like to read a poem out loud. Sometimes I like to read a poem silently. I have not yet decided which is my favorite. I just know that the enjoyment is in the reading. Sometimes even when reading silently, the poem will resonate within me and rouse my attention just as strongly as if I were hearing it over a loudspeaker. These poems I like the best.

Beautifully written with all the sentiments that a poem can convey. Your first stanza does tell us what poetry means to you. Then you have generalised to the point where you explain the effect poetry on some people, what poetry consists of etc. You do pick up again at the end with what poetry means to you - repeating some of your first stanza. A good read and Good Luck in the contest. Regards Dorothy

This is a very beautiful description of what poetry means to you. Your rhyming and presentation are both excellent. In reading your poem, I felt that poetry makes me also feel the same in many ways. Good luck to you. Bill

Great poem Shelly. You have taken a good look at the subject, it is all so true about poetry the beautiful art of words. Yes, they are the words on paper when the voice dissappears. And how grateful are we for poets. I love your presentation.

This is a well written poem which covers just about everything I can think of about what people do with poetry. You've covered themes, topics, emotions and also styles. Interesting reading! Good luck in the contest.
