to the tune of $250[,](.)00. Hope this is what you meant.

Thank you so much for the review. You are right. People will still be sucked in. I keep remembering more times when the scammer almost got me. I really appreciate you seeing those things that needed to be fixed. I've done the corrections. I pleased with the six stars.

I'm amazed, Beth, that you know so many who've been victims of one scam or other. But then again, I'm not on social media and have no desire to be. I just don't trust it. It's not my scene. I hope your daughter will be okay. Good luck. Ulla:)))

Thank you so much for the review. The telephone scammers are just as bad but your are wise to avoid social media. I think my daughter may have alerted him to the fact everyone was telling her it was scam and he had possibly backed off. I hope so.

This is a very enlightening essay, Beth. It always amazes me how many people fall these scams, especially well-educated people who seem to have no sense of logic. Years ago, when I was fairly new to computers, I might have allowed someone access to mine. He claimed he wanted to share some music with me. I didn't hear from him again, so I'm wondering if he managed to access my bank account and figured it wasn't worth the effort. lol Lesson learned. Good luck in the contest.

A few little things that need fixing: "I had very a close personal friend," - move the "a" to before "very"
"Jackie was convinced Divine Providence was working (on) their behalf."
"The person who called claimed (to said) he was a lawyer,"
"or back(bank) account number."
"but the age of commuters(computers) seems to have"

Thank you so much for the review and for catching those things that needed to be corrected. Most of them were places where I tried to make a correction and instead made another error

Wow. Thank you for this very timely and informative essay. I know this sort of thing goes on and have gotten several phone calls claiming that one of my credit cards has been used for $200 or $300 and that I should call them back if I want to challenge it. Instead, I call my credit card company! My brother who lives a long way from me called one day with a very upset message wanting to know what was going on. He had apparently gotten an email from me asking telling him that I needed money and asking him to get five different department store gift cards for several hundred dollars but they didn't have one of the stores in his area. I was appalled and told him that I knew nothing about it. I asked why he hadn't called me to check and he said it was my email address. It was similar but not exact. He was quite put out with me. One last thing, I saw on Facebook this week that the posts that have questions like: what is your maiden name? Or, what is the name of your favorite pet? Those kinds of questions we might used as security answers for passwords, are a ploy to get information for a future fraud attempt. This is a terrible thing and I hope your daughter escapes this unscathed. Thanks again for this excellent report. If I had a six, I'd give it to you!

Thank you Mary, There is no room in a piece lie this to tell everything. but three different times, I've had a call and starts by saying "Hey Grandma, How are you." They figure older people may have a grandson they don't speak to often. The first time I thought it was son-in-playing a prank. When I called him Mike, He said "yeah, it's me, Mike. I've been a accident and I don't want to call my parents. I need you to wire me some money." I knew by that time it was a scam.

Very apt title for this vexing subject. Every morning when I watch the news, I see a scam. The internet has become a happy hunting ground for these fraudsters. I read with interest your stories when my jaw dropped. Thank you for posting this and warning everybody. we need to be told to be careful repeatedly.
Good luck in the contest!
PS:Send me $100 and I'll ell you how to avoid!:) wink! wink!

Scammers are everywhere and are smart enough to draw in most anyone. And the saddest part of it all is: there is no one to help. I've sent 37 letters and made nearly a 100 calls to report scams, two of them mine. The government's site is so overwhelmed with complaints that they can't handle the flow, and the criminals know it. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the review and comments. I tried to report this to a hot line, but there was no one there to take my call. Even though there doesn't seem to be much they can do about it, I guess it is wise to keep reporting.

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. We all know about this, but don't believe it could happen to us, but it does. Good luck with the contest.

The next step was to say he trusted her to help him, He wanted to have a valuable package (if you keep the comma lower case 'h' on he, or you could replace the comma with a period)

You've made a great point in this essay. I have read numerous stories like this and find it so sad that scammers have no heart at all.
I know when you said that you had a virus you paid $250.00, not $250,00. Both of my sisters fell for that one.
Many poor, lonely people are vulnerable to these attacks and fall on their faces in the meantime, if they have not emptied their bank accounts.
This scams are hurtful. If only these people could be found and brought to justice.
Great entry for the contest.
Best of luck.
Marie

This would definitely be worth a six and even more to the people you warned and hopefully prevented from falling for these scams. Before my father passed, he received a call, and they said it was from the bank....Now my father trusted no one, but after all, it was his bank for fifty years. He gave them all his information. Luckily, I arrived only moments after, and he told me....I immediately called his bank and his stockbroker. We lucked out, but it could have been a disaster. Thank you for sharing all this information, and I pray your daughter takes it to heart.

Smiles and hugs, Carol

This is a very informative essay about the many scams that are being perpetrated, daily. Telemarketing is most annoying because it involves answering the phone. Some of them congratulating a specific win. I just hang up. Some are bold enough to phone back and enquire why I hung up. Computer fraud is usually very easy to identify unless you are
easily manipulated. This is a wise way to alert us.

Thank you Ralf, I appreciate the review. Yes those constant calls we get on the telephone are so anoying. I used to never be rude but I'm afraid I can't claim that any more. I am often rude to people on these obnoxious calles.
