Very cute poem with a killer ending.
"'twas gift-wrapped at the Mall!" started my day giggling - so you've certainly met the requirements of the contest. I wish you luck.

This is well rhymed with a great flow of words that made me smile, I love the humour here and can identify with your words as wrapping presents is not my greatest skill! Ha ha ha, my daughter is brilliant at it, love Dolly x

Your poem is excellent in every respect--skillfully-composed, entertaining, funny, and vividly descriptive of the type of scene that occurs repeatedly this time of year.

Thanks for the praise, Janice. My Christmas silly hat might not fit me now.

I love the truth and humour in this poem. You've successfully told the story of frustration in gift wrapping odd shaped (for me, any shape) gifts. Love the tongue and cheek. Your rhyming is light and merry and you meter bounces along with tight precision. I have a smile on my face and feel a little more lightened up for Xmas. Well done you! Thank you for putting this out there.

The contest asked writers to 'lighten up' so i gave the humour a shot. Glad it evoked a smile from you as you related.
(Where do you live? I noticed you didn't spell 'humour' the American way.)

I'm in Canada... British spelling influence.

That explains it... same for New Zealand where I live.

I love NZ! You live in the best country. We were there 3 years ago. Felt like I could live there. Earthquakes are a bit worrisome. Otherwise you live in Eden. Lucky you. Love your PM too!

I am so very grateful for NZ's isolation, beauty, small population, sensible residents who listen to knowledgeable advice, and a clear-headed young woman as our leader. She is the most popular prime minister we have ever had, for good reason. Stable, caring governance is crucial at any time, but especially during a global pandemic.
Did you spend time in the South Island when you visited? I live in Dunedin, down south.

We went to Queenstown, Blenheim, Christchurch, Milford Sound?, Greymouth and took the Trans Alpine Express to Christchurch. The most amazing scenery in one country. You got all the best features of every country packed into one. And your wine!!! Lucky you!

You cherry-picked some good spots there for variety. Our wine is rather good. I'm an Australian but I prefer living in NZ.

I like wine from both countries! I feel you are probably close to me in vintage. I had three Lisa's in my grade school class and we're all still friends. And you have a pinch (or more) of Latin under you belt. Nice to meet a digital kindred spirit. Just discovered you wrote He's Playing Around - which I voted for. You live in tomorrow. I live in the past. And we see eye to eye. Have a g'day in tomorrow.

This is too funny! I can relate because I've been there. One time I gave a gift wrapped with two different wrapping papers. It's what's inside that counts. Thanks for sharing.

A very well-written fun poem about the dilemma to wrap up that special gifts we bought that can become a disastrous mission when we try to wrap it alone.

Dear Mystery Thumbs,

hahaha That image was perfect! I think all of us - right? - have had to go through this stage in life. The wrapping-paper-arc. hahaha

The poem was fun, the format was unique, the rhymes made sense and went really well with the story (not forced), and it had a cool surprise ending. This is a neat one. Good luck!

Oh! My heart goes out to you. I cannot wrap them up decently either. If a present is cylindrical I make it look like a cracker but even the regularly shaped cubes and cuboids are beyond me. Bottles are OK because you can get good looking bottle carriers but then you'll know what it is and all the excitement of unwrapping it will have gone. This poem definitely needed to be written. Well done.

Quite relatable. We have all been there, now I use decorative bags. I order on line for most my gifts, I should check if they gift wrap. Your poem made me laugh before morning coffee. So your poem gets a thumbs up.
