Hi Brooke,
I love your poem. You always write such nice ones. Your mind must be whirling with ideas because your poems are always great and interesting . My brain is in the sleeping mode at my age. LOL The picture of Sawyer is really cute too.

I remember Fred Astaire singing and dancing to Me and My Shadow.
Brooke, you have this uncanny affinity for thinking like a child, but articulating their simpler thoughts in more creative and unusual ways. You are a teacher, my friend.
Publish this stuff. You'll make a difference, Brooke.
Peace, Lee

Lee, I love all the things you remember and appreciate :-) On Facebook I just saw the best photo of Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart leading a march against the McCarthy witch hunt - she is in high heels and a pencil skirt, looking both gorgeous and empowered. I bet she could have been a great dance partner for Astaire :-) I appreciate your support, my friend :-) Brooke

Lauren Bacall will always be on my list of dream girls. I've always gone for the sultry types with the husky voices. Like Ann Bancroft and Chill Wills. L

As a child, I was fascinated with my shadow. I could spend hours trying to chase it but I could never catch it; then, poof, it would disappear. Great work with this one. I really enjoyed the smooth flow and delightful rhyme.

Valerie, thank you so much :-) I could have guessed you would have that kind of relationship with your shadow :-) Brooke

I absolutely love re-discovering life through the eyes of Miranda's lens, and the discoveries of Sawyer. Another terrific piece of writing. Flawless, of course.
So nice to read something positively positive.
Rose.

Thank you so much, Rose, for your generous response to this poem. I am so sick and tired of bad news and worse news that follows - I have to create my own positivity. :-) Brooke

Thank goodness for those of you who look on the bright side. Too much crap in the waters these days. R.

Sawyer's shadowed hands look that that old Dracula black and white movie, where the monster is creeping down the stairs, Brooke. :-)
Excellent enjambment and alliteration, plus your usual top rhymes and meter.
I love the original idea of having a shadow who's a permanent friend. I miss mine, as I don't go out much. :-)
Excellent read!
Cheers, Ray xx

You always seem to point out the perceptions of simple things, like shadows, in a child's mind. Grown-ups enjoy treasures along the way, too!

An uplifting poem and not just for kids. Great picture of Sawyer and his shadow. He can go everyday to this spot to visit. lol Really easy flowing beat to these rhyming verses, they just roll along.
'sgood imagery for all that is the shadow's personality reflected in this poem.

We should know that shadows hide under our feet. They tend to be more visible after walking around barefoot for a while. HA.
I like the flow and rhythm of your lines.
Nice idea of a shadow friend...
He never tells me where he's been --
he's more the silent kind,
but if he has a secret life,
I guess I shouldn't mind
because he always reappears
with regularity,
so we can share another day,
my shadow friend and me.
