This is a very nice quatern Brooke. You make them sound so smooth we hardly notice the repeating line. Love the fanciful name bumbershoot for umbrella. Nice picture of Sawyer and Nora. I'm sure all of California is enjoying the much needed rain,(except for the mud slides.)Enjoyed. Nancy

Nancy, thank you so very much :-) Sawyer is still warming up to the idea of rain. The first time they took him out in it a couple of days ago he shouted, "All done. All done. Wet wet." and then he ran to the door to go back in. LOL :-) Brooke

LOL. That's funny! He should have been introduced in the summer when he could enjoy the puddles. My granddaughter didn't like grass the first time we set her in the yard. She tried to crab crawl out to the concrete.

LOL - their first reactions to things are always so cute and rarely what we anticipated :-) One of Sawyer's favorite things is bathtime, but I guess the water falling on his head was not quite the same thing :-)

My grandson Jimmy was freaked out by his shadow one day. Yes, kids can be very entertaining.

Brooke, I am always delighted by your children's tales of adventure. It seems children can find pleasure and adventure in any kind of weather. I like how you employed your refrain throughout the poem. And it was fun to see "bumbershoots" reprised as I have not heard that word since the last time I watched "Mary Poppins."

Hi Brooke,
Had I a sixer left to dole out, it would be yours, for this delightful children's poem!
I have never heard the term "bumbershoot" before! Love it!
Loved your rhyming and imagery in "spy a whale" and "whopping tale".
"Perhaps it only was a worm that wriggled by with plumpened tail" ... perfect imagery to show how hard it was raining ... hard enough to drive the worms out from the ground.
Great poem! So very enjoyable to read! Cute pic too!
Connie :)

A magical delight! Thank you for sharing. Their rain is sending us terrible ice and snow............wish they would keep it to themselves!

My goodness--it's already March! These long-awaited rains should bring us many spring flowers. But at the moment, I'm curious about the derivation of "bumbershoots"! I enjoyed the rhythm of your repeats and energy of your rhymes. Thanks for reminding us about the joy that can be found in liquid sunshine! Hugs and happy weekend- Joan

Hey, another cute wee poem. Ah, the days of rain and gumboots. Of brollies and slickers and little kids and dogs shaking wet all over the floor...mmmy,
I would rather have the adventure mentioned in the poem, where shall we sail?

Dear Brooke, this is delightful poem! Instantly makes me smile! I love the way it speaks from the mind of a child. If I want a great example of a quatern, this is it! :) Such excellent meter, perfectly suited to this lovely piece. Sawyer surely will be a great poet when he grows up if he follows his gran! Thanks for sharing..
Love and blessings,
Christine

This is cool. I never knew an umbrella was called a bumbershoot.... That is cute...as usual I love these fanciful tales that speak of kids and innocence and sheer joy.

Actually, Brooke I once wrote a poem almost exactly like this one. I called it Bamboo Shoots and Snickers. Dang if we ain't on the same wave length!
Love that childish capacity for turning a rain puddle into a daring seafaring adventure. I reject the worm theory. I am convinced it was a whale--and of Biblical proportions, too.
Who's to say what may entail
when bumpershoots and slickers fail?
Love the whimsey.
Peace, Lee

Lee, thank you so very much :-) I had heard there were people in the world who are worm rejecters but didn't know if I would actually ever meet them ;-) I appreciate the laughs and the sixth star, my friend :-) You have no idea how much I sweated over this one. Brooke

Very positive and full of life. The best thing at that age is imagination. Great rhyming as always. Adorable and a fun read. Les
