Wow, GW, you pose a most haunting and alarming
qustion: 'what secrets or traditions will our
future generation have handed down from ours?
I fear to even begin an answer! So much of
technology has taken over the verbal heritages
and wisdoms; that it is almost too disheartening
to even wonder. I pray and hope at least a few
are still somehow salvaged and preserved!

I sure hope so. There's so much that is talked about of great importance that will be unseen because of not being written down, what a shame. I do hope that much of it will be carred down throughout the generations. What a great question. . .Sharon

Very nice thought you have hear. The oral word does seem to be a lost art. When I was little and still til now, I always loved to hear my mom tell stories about the past.
Her humor and expression when telling a story is priceless.

This is an interesting thought, deepwater, and certainly an original and excellent one to build a poem around. My problem with the poem is how it is presented...why is it so oddly addressed to all unwritten things? That construction seems artificial and awkward to me...I would suggest dropping the first two words (to all) and making the first half of the poem a declarative sentence in past tense...unwritten things/have been passed etc. and end with a period after stone. Then capitalize the thought provoking question that is really the heart of this prose-like short poem..Will etc. You also need to change foreward to forward...foreward refers to the introductory part of a piece of writing, I believe.

I just had a long discussion the other day about the history of oral tradition, it was an art. The stories that were told were retold with great care and accuracy. It is a dying or maybe even lost art. Thank you for this piece.
