Lovely to read the upbeat, bright mood in this joyful poem, Peter.

How wonderful that Jinny was able to enjoy Harry before she went home.

Have a blessed weekend.

Sonali :)

Babies do certainly change daily routines. Yes, I can see Harry could be a little character. What a cutie. Love that this is written in meter and reads so smoothly. Good rhymes in your abab rhyme scheme. No forces rhymes. I noticed good use of consonance and assonance.
I know you will enjoy your sweet grandson.
Blessings,
Maria C.

An enjoyable and delightful read about Harry! Your poem has great rhythm, flow, and rhyming. Love the way you worded 'Their baby boy is full of fun / And studies our reactions to
His antics, which, if once begun / will just go on until he's through.' The joy is evident throughout your words and the photo. Beautifully written! :)

Hi, Peter.

Coincidentally, I have just posted a poem for my grand-daughter, who was also long-awaited and sadly for us remains our only!

Your piece is nicely written in rhyming quatrains and portrays not only he huge upheaval in our lives when a baby arrives, but also how quickly little ones learn to assess and manipulate clucking family and friends - where do they get that knowledge from??

Lovely poem.

BTW Condolences on your recent loss.

Steve

A lovely and heartfelt poem about the love of the parents of your beautiful great-grandson. May he grow to be the wonderful person that you are. Harry is adorable.

A very good poem and you are correct a baby will cause changes in the lives of the parents but the rewards of a loving family are endless.
Note:

Just a suggestion, but I would look at lines 2 and 4 of the second stanza.

Thank you for your pleasant comments. I presume you were referring to an apparent lack of rhyme in lines 2 and 4 of the second stanza. May I suggest you look up 'near rhyme' in any respectable primer that you may have, where you will find that it is a time-honoured, most useful DEVICE used by even the best of poets. You might also google it. If you say such lines aloud you may hear how close these apparently jarring lines sound. There is a distinction between ear-rhymes and eye-rhymes. I apologise for my long overdue response, but my wife had passed away just two months previously. Peter@Poole

Not quite sure what "quite" meant in your comments but I appreciate your rapport. Thank you, Dionysus. Peter@Poole

Hi Peter,

This is one of the most charming poems to a grandchild or great-grandchild I've read. Nicely done, I am still awaiting the arrival of a single grandchild, and I fear time is running out for that happy continuance.

Thank you, Patrick, for your lovely response, and I'm sorry for my long overdue reply. In the intervening time, I've acquired three more great-grandchildren, so really do count my blessings. I've stopped briefly to send up an arrow prayer, or whatever they are called, for you to be blessed similarly. Peter

Hi Peter,

Oh, what a darling great-grandson you have. This is a wonderful poem written for him. His parents are great looking people too. Isn't it wonderful to have a great-grandson?

I have 14 great-grandchildren. Dylan is my first great-great and I hope to have more.

Lovely photo of you great grandson. He looks gorgeous. When he visits I am pretty sure he will take your minds of things. Lovely rhyme and meter,
