Sorry out of sixes. There are hero's and heroin's on this site and outside that are currently in he making. And I think more often than not, it is the small kindnesses that you speak of, that allows them to rise from the ashes, if only long enough to brush themselves off until they find their own wings.

As I told you, after such an outpouring of kindness towards one individual, I planned, and did, post this on her birthday to remind us that we can be heroes every day if we just give ourselves the chance to live up to our own potential.
-
I am sure that made her day. Beautiful thoughts framed in wise words.

NO, we ought not need an excuse to be kind, but we seem to anyway. Why, for example are we more generous after the Turkey is eaten and the lights put up?
Maybe I Will get to know her as do you.
Thanks for sharing

She managed to catch our imagination and we became cheerleaders, wanting her to win. I'm glad she scored before...who knows.

Great tribute, Ingrid. I sincerely hope Evelyn reads this. I've only recently heard about her amazing life and I much catch up on her writing. I had one brief exchange with her, and could tell she was a delightful person. And kudos to Janie King as well for her unfailing support. She's a saint. Thanks for writing this, Ingrid. It really hit the mark.

Evelyn is not, by any means, one of the best writers on this site, but she caught the imagination of many people. Her entire story--the abuse, the survival, her enduring faith and her late life career change to writer--made her a favourite.
I didn't read the entire book, but thought, what the hell, I'll order it from Amazon, and did. I laughed like hell when I saw the invoice from Amazon. While everyone else is desperately pandering their books, offering low prices and even give-aways, Evelyn charged a whopping $20 for her book--and that didn't include shipping. Guess, she's finally recognized her self worth and expecting to be paid market value for her story.
Thanks for the delight galaxy of stars.

This is a lovely ode to Miss Evelyn, and to all those who have risen above difficult and tragic events. Your words incite respect and admiration. I wouldn't change a thing, this is simply beautiful.

No, we shouldn't need an excuse to be kind. Thanks for the premature birthday wishes. LOL!
Seriously, Ingrid, a nice reflective piece on this lady who seems to have touched so many hearts.
Writing can be therapeutic in so many ways. I know you have used it to clean out some of your skeletons. And you're right - everyone has a story to tell. Whether or not they choose to tell it on here...
There's a hug heading down Hespeler. And happy birthday to you. :)

There was so much attention last week and the tributes were awesome. At the time I really wondered why we didn't pick an 'writer-of-the-month' and focus that much positive energy on them, regardless of the age.

How wonderful this is Spiritual Echo. The story of Evelyn is one not to be forgotten and to be passed around forever. She is a strong woman for sure.

True, but we should learn by her example and try to emulate the spirit of all our collective good will for that week. We should try to let it radiate and let the light brighten up some dark corners in our world.
Congratulations on your trophy. you must have a shelf dedicated to the statues. You deserve every accolade.

Thank you so much for the wonderful remarks.

I like the sentiments in this. I have had a very good and blessed life, so I don't understand the survivor's message. But you are right we don't need an excuse to be kind. I made a decision this year to do an random act of kindness every day. Be it hold the door for someone, loan them change, or just listen to someone. It is easy if you don't do something for recognition. Your essays always seem to reach me. Great work.

I'm o glad they do. Your decision--a conscious decision--to pass on kindness is very important. By nature, most of us mean no harm to others and given a challenge, will rise to imperious glory in our ability to do good, but we get distracted, busy and negligent. when you make a decision, as you have, everything becomes clearer.

Yeah, but it's more of a reminder to take the energy we so freely gave one woman and use it to lift others and make each contact feel special.

I here you. Thanks

It sounds like Evelyn had--is having, I guess, since today is the 12th--a nice birthday. I'm glad that FS folks sent well-wishes. I know she's been going through a hard time lately. I think it's awesome that, at 87, she's writing her life story and doing such a great job of it. She is an inspiration to a lot of people.

Hi, Spiritual Echo. A lovely write, and I'm saying six stars. You emphasize the qualities that Miss Evelyn brought out in her life and her writing. I've had an easy time, compared to what she had to endure. She has shown such strength and faith, I think that's what has inspired all of us on FanStory who have read her stories. She is certainly an inspiration to younger women who may be going through a similar experience. I hope her health improves so she may enjoy more birthdays. You've expressed appreciation for Miss Evelyn from all of us. judi

More than anything, I was wondering how a humble woman would react to such an outpouring of affection. no doubt, one of the best days of her life.
Thanks so much for all the star power. Greatly appreciated.
